Good authors!
I just read a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, called 'Harrison Bergron.' I liked it.
My favorite authors:

Tolkien (of course)
Sir Arthur Conon Doyle (Sherlock Holmes)
Douglas Adams (Watership Down)
Irene Hunt (Across Five Aprils, about the Civil War, anyone read it?)
Poe!!!(I loved the Telltale Heart, and the Raven, and...I just like morbid stuff)
Louisa May Alcott (Little Women)
L.M. Montogomery (Anne of Green Gables)
Sir Thomas Malory (Mort Darthur)
Washington Irving (Rip Van Winkle, the Sketch Book)
Louis Sachar (Holes, a Newberry winner, light but good writing)
Wilson Rawls (Where the Red Fern Grows, Summer of th]Monkeys [awful movie, great book])

How could I have forgotten Lewis?!!! He claimed his best works as Perelandra and Til We Have Faces (a remaking of the myth of Cupid and Psyche, interwoven with subtle themes of grace and redemption--not overtly christian, like narnia's allegory, but despite that, or perhaps even because of that it is absolutely incredible)

The name of the woman who wrote Hind's Feet in High Places escapes me at the moment, but that is also an excellent book. the style of Much Afraid's journey, and the names of the characters is a bit reminiscent of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, but this is much easier to read.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton, anyone?
fictional works include: The man who was Thursday, Father Brown Mysteries, and Napoleon of Nottinghill. I'm still working my way through The Man Who was Thursday

Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Ann Rinaldi (but I don't like the "Princess Diaries" series so much), and I like Joan Bauer's writing style (her books are for kids about my age).

I think Terry Brooks has a lot of potental if he would get original and stop indirectly copying Tolkien!
I think exactly that too, Sakata! I like his writing style a lot.

I had to read it for school, but I didn't find it very interesting. What was so appealing about it?

Yes, I'm 13 years old, so I like younger books. Some of the authors I like don't seem to fit in with who everyone else likes.

bow before the gods of literature!

F. Dostoyevsky
C. Dickens
J.R.R. Tolkien
Victor Hugo
C.S. Lewis

Tolstoy-even though I thoroughly enjoyed 'War and Peace-is, in my opinion definitely overrated.
so far, Tolkien and Dickens have gotten the most votes in this thread...

btw, Pippin Skywalker, vive russkian literature
