Oh, sorry. I thought you meant that monster. My bad.
Yeah, those washing machine sized things floating around in Japan are so big they're scary. There are some photos of them being pulled up in nets with no fish, just jellyfish.

It could be possible that, if a jellyfish got enough food, it could grow to monster proportions, but it is scary to think so.

Okay, that's sick. That jellyfish is larger than the guy and can kill with a sting and he still swims next to it. He wants to make a profit out of it. I don't have the stomach for this...

okay, it's not that bad, but I wouldn't do it for all the money on the world.

Do be careful dear, who is going to supply me with gross monsterstories if not for you?

I bet Earniel might.
Stories about giant frogs, that is.......

I actually have a book somewhere that talks about Japanese scientists that supposedly found a species of giant toad, but were unable to record them because they ate their camera equipment. I dont know about this story. I'm gonna have to do some more research.

Sadly, those seem in short supply, stories about giant killer frogs. I haven't come across any.

The largest known frog is the goliath frog, measuring around 30cm. Then there's the cane toad (nasty piece of work that) that can also grow quite large. The largest recorded, nicknamed Toadzilla, was definitely a handfull. But beyond that? Nothing to my knowledge.

Of course I've heard of a low-grade horror movie named 'Frogs', I haven't been able to see much of it other than clips on you-tube but it seems to contain precious little actual frogs...

My poor bulgy-eyed cuties are woefully underrepresented!

Perhaps that's because they are just too cute to be considered for horror movies. Hardly anyone fears frogs (unless you live in the rainforest where they have the toxic kinds, but still, those are very pretty. It's hard to fear something very pretty)

I suppose there's truth in that. Viciousness and frogs don't quite go together. Although I somehow think they should have made more of an effort, if they can make movies about fluffy killer bunnies and killer sheep...

Anyway, back to cryptids. We've had the Kraken and Nessie, so now what are your thoughts on, let's say... the Yeti?

I love the Yeti!
I once read a story (might have been Suske en Wiske) on how when they came of Noah's Arch the female Yeti died and then the male Yeti stayed behind with her on the mountain in the snow to guard her body forever. What I'm going to say next sounds way too girly, but whatever: [high pitched voice] It's soooo romantic! [/high pitched voice]
Have you heard about the Sassefras? Any idea what the connection between the Yeti and the Sassefras is?

Sasquatch. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...pp/bigfoot.htm

Sassafras. http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SAAL5

I actually know something about sassafras. Not so much about Sasquatch.

Hmm, I thought Sassafras was also some kind of animal, but I guess I was wrong.
So is a Sasquatch different from a Bigfoot?

I beleive that they're refering to the same animal type, but there are differences in their supposed physiology depending on location. Like in the swamps of the south, they are supposed to only have three toes, and be very agressive.

I suppose it's possible the sasquatch could be out there, but why is there so little fossil evidence to prove that? There is more unexplore wilderness in North America than in Africa, so maybe some stories could be true.

Romance is good, in certain quantities. The Suske en Wiske album doesn't ring a bell, might have been a different series, I think.

Quote:

Sassefras doesn't ring a bell, but I thought it was a sort of Dutch nickname? May belong to a regional critter? I have absolute no idea.

The Yeti is one of the only cryptids that I think may actually exist. Although I base that belief most squarely on a tress of reddish hair seen in a documentary, believed to be the Yeti's and which (when tested on DNA) had no match to known animals. It's been a while since I saw it, so who knows it might have turned out to be a bear. *shrugs*

There was also a clip a while ago that was aired in one of those cryptozoology shows (one hosted by Jonathan Frakes, an actor from Star Trek) that looked like a holiday movie from two tourists. At first you see a woman, playing in the snow, then she points down and the camera follows and lower on the mountain side you see a dark hairy biped walking away. I remember this movie specifically because at the show they asked whether anyone could identify the couple in the film (since they had apparently sent it in anonymously) and that analysis of the sound showed they were probably Dutch. It had much of the halmarks of a hoax (who sends in such a video anonymously?) but still cool.

The sasquatch I know very little about, and what I do know comes out of TV-shows, which may explain me not believing in it. I came across an interesting quote once: "If there was really a giant unknown hominid roaming the Pacific Northwest someone would have hit it with a car or sold it weed by now."

LOL, Mari, I was about to ask the same question about Bigfoot.

ROFLMAO

The Yeti could indeed exist, I suppose. What does anyone here know about it and its environment? If it lives at altitude, then maybe that could explain the blaring absence of physical proof: no one wants to go dig through the snow to get to it.

In that case, we only have to wait until global warming's up and running.
