I really dont like catagorizing music into metal, industrial, punk etc etcm some people get very ****ing antsy over NIN being called industrial, even though they were seen as the big industrial movers.
Manson i simply catagorise as "divine"...
But yes Rammstein rock indeed. Los

YES! Pink Floyd IS the BEST! nothing near metal, though Sorrow and One Of These Days could be called something related. Pink Floyd is the best band ever! and Learning To Fly is also one of their best songs, though you can't pick the best. that's like picking whats most necessary, breathing or drinking

I haven't listened to much of what could truly be considered metal...but, one of my best friends used to be the lead singer of a band called Redefina...and he would always be listening to Norwegian metal bands during school...even though I don't remember names well, I remember the music was....ah, there are no good words to explain music and the way it makes me feel...it was mad awesome.
Mmmm....I've heard some of Opeth...and I like!

Oh, I bet he listened to Dimmu Borgir and Satyricon. those are mainly the ones I know, which is a bit famous. But Norwegian Metall is famous all over the world, I hear. Especialy in Japan, they love it. I'll guess it's our old viking blood coming out
I read a funny quote from IRQ about someone who wanted norwegian metall, but it's only fun for those who know the bands.

And Iron Maiden. How could I forget them!? They rock socks.

Same with Led Zeppelin. If they haven't been mentioined already we need to repair this gross oversight.

Yes, Iron Maiden is actually not bad. And Led Zepplin totally rocks! But if you could call it metall, I'm not so sure about. But hey, who cares? as long it sounds good, I give a dang what genre it is.

I really don't know. One of the groups had a female vocalist with the most gorgeous voice ever. And the music was so powerful it just about knocked me over while I was listening to it...I should ask him if he remembers who it was...

My two favorite metal-bands currentl: My Dying Bride, Blind Guardian (Pink Floyd? Pink Floyd! ). System of a Down (though perhaps not counted as "real" metal ) and Metallica ('s earlier works) are good.

Other metal-bands I often listen to are: Dimmu Borgir, Ulver, Windir, Cradle of Filth, Vintersorg, Tristania, Elend, Iron Maiden, Katatonia, Sonata Artica, Swallow the Sun, Rhapsody, Helloween. Used to listen a lot to Mánowar (and some Hammrfall)

Also used to listen to Nightwish, still think they have a few good tracks.

I just recently started listening to metal and so far my experience has been:

Metallica (LOVE them!)
Nightwish (a lot of great songs)
Sonata Arctica (I HATE the vocals)
Stratovarius (Perfection)
Blind Guardian (Metal+Tolkien = )

As a result, I discovered that I like power metal a lot, so I was wondering if any of you guys could recommend a good p/m band (with good vocals!!)

Here's my short list of favs:

Metallica
Black Sabbath
Godsmack
Led Zeppelin (if they're metal)

But System of a Down is my ultimate favorite.

Quote:
System of a down is my favorite band. I love the kind of message they put out. I also adore Tool. I really don't like the kind of metal that's nothing more than mindless screaming, like Nile and Sepultura.
I totally agree that they have awesome messages in their songs. Has anyone else bought they're new album?

Lately my two favorite metal-bands have been Katatonia and Opeth. Also been trying to get into some Anathema, but haven't been able to have had a real go yet.
