Yes, I know. Dimwits really soften things up these days.

[ramble]Genies aren't really affable blue wisps of air, you know. I believe that in original Arabic mythology, they are demons bound to a material object, such as a lamp, and serve the master of the lamp (example) because they are enslaved and have no choice. Disney sure can muck things up.[/ramble]

Oh they made up for it though. Genie was a cool character.

And Close Encounters of t 3 k was a good movie too. That's a classic. Did you ever see the extended version of it though? There's about 15 minutes of 'bonus' footage, which is all of the ship landing in the end. It always makes me wonder how they can travel through space, going at 0.2 mph like that.

I disagree. It's like PJ. If you're gonna just turn it into an almost completely different thing, you shouldn't call it the same thing. Make up your own name! The Disney folk are rather uninventive. All they seem to be much good at is taking olden tales and turning them completely around.

But it doesn't matter to the little audience. They won't be upset if a character in the movie doesn't match the one in Arabian Nights. It's different with PJ, because he knows his audience has read LotR.

Personally, I think that regardless of the audience, the story and the authenticity should be retained.

I know ecspecially with Hans Christian Anderson's stories. The little mermaid is turnd into a sappy-sweet-happily-ever-after-bad-guy-gets-his-dues-movie ugh! The original has the mermaid die. And the Hunchback of Notre Dame the two main characters die. i like that better than the Disnified version.

Disney must DIE!!!!!! They took perfectly good morbid fairy tales and turned them into musical fluff! Take Cinderella, what happened to the step-sisters cutting off bits of their feet in order to wear the slipper and trick the prince and then having their eyes pecked out by the birds? There was nothing wrong with that ending. And Snow White, the witch having to dance till she dropped in the red hot iron shoes, they completely ruined the stories.
