yep it was Sir Richard Francis Burton

He is also known as the man who translated the Arabian Nights and the Kama Sutra into English.

so, two birds, one stone .... almost sounds as if he may have translated that himself ...

well, that ends my suggest one, get another free offer

I think Francis Scott Key wrote the American Natonal Anthem, so he probably wouldn't have been knighted, but don't quote me on this. Am I right? Not sure...

No wonder I remember his name...you're right.

What about Richard Attenborough?

Sir Richard Attenborough is an amazingly prolific film director. Key was the songwriter of anthem fame.
"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics were written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, a 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet.

As of today, Sir David Jason (comedian).

That's funny BB, when I read Richard Attenborough's name my next thought was David Frost too... they must be connected in my mind somehow. Anyway, his brother David Attenborough is also a knight.

Grr...Yesterday I was gathering names of all the knighted Prestons of Scotland. So I copied them all down, and what happens? Someone wants to use the computer, so I have to leave. Conveniently when I tried to stick the names and update, the comp gave me a blank stare and the person was getting impatient....

anyways, I can add:
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (composer)
Sir Charles Groves (conductor)

I know what you feel like... I have two brothers and I'm forever having to get up, and give up the computer to someone else.

And here's a funny addition. Last night, while making myself a hot cup of tea, noticed this inscription on the back of the tea packet:

"A century ago, Sir Thomas Lipton created the world-famous brand of Lipton Tea..."

So there's another knight for you!

P.S. Is it really world famous? Has anyone heard of it before?

I've heard of it before . My mom drinks it, although I don't like it very much. There are better brands of cold tea, if you ask me .

Hehe, if you look up Sir Simon Preston on google, you'll run into a lot of knights
Make sure you type Sir, because otherwise you'll pull up info about another Simon Preston, the incomparable Organist, who by the way deserves a knighthood himself.
