When it begins it is a delight to the ear,
melodious, enchanting, enthralling and clear.
Yet to each it sounds different for those who are near.

Who are the fifteen
That fought?
What are the twelve
That rise not?

The 15 may possibly be Riders of Rohan who fell in the battle with Ugluk on the fringes of Fangorn.
The 12 are their horses.

I've got my copy of Silmarillion loaned out to a guy at work, but does this have to do with the Glittering Caves of Menegroth? The Sindarin Elves of Thingol and Melian?
