The third one was (IIRC) "To give up half the light of the world to save the world" I always thought this had something to do with Min's viewing about "the eyeball in the scales" (because half the light of the world could be one eye)

Ah, yes, right. Now that makes me wonder...

It's obviously a parallel to Woden, the Norse chief god-who was also associated with ravens. Anyway, he gave up one of his eyes to drink from the Well of Wisdom or something like that...

I can't help but wonder...
Is it related at all to the Tower of Ghenjai?

Could be! I've never looked at it this way. However, I believe the god is called Odin.

I'm fairly certain the two names are interchangeable...anyway, Jordan makes a few parallels to everything. LOTR, Norse and Eastern mythology, Buddhism, medieval Europe, the Arthur legends...even Greek mythology!

You're wondering what the heck WoT has to do with the Greeks, right? It's simple: Hecate, goddess of sorcery and whatnot, is associated with the hellhounds that haunt a crossroads at twilight.

Would that be the Darkhounds? So did Hecat's hellhounds not leave prints save on stone?

I'm not sure...that might be something RJ invented. Here's another...coincedence for you: the monster in Beowulf is named "Grendel". Is RJ making a statement about our favorite streith-wearing Forsaken?

Same here. I'm trying to get my dad to read them. No luck yet. I only have one person in RL to talk about them to.

Thank you. It bites 'cause I can't just walk up to someone and say something only a WoT fan would know.

I finished the most recent book not too long ago (Knife of Dreams, I think), and I thought it was really excellent! I know a lot of people found it boring, but I thought the whole thing was pretty exciting.

Except for the parts with Elayne... honestly, what a little wench.

"Oh, yea, like, 5000 soldiers died a horrible death b/cuz ov me being stupid, but liek it's okay b/cuz i can't die till mi babies r born! OMG LAWL!!!!"

I paraphrase, of course, but it's the general idea.

LOL, that's exactly how Elayne is!
If she ends up dying in the 12th book...I might actually laugh.
