Gaudy Nights was a real bore. After that I am not too keen on other Wimsey books.

That one does get long, and focuses on a lot other than the murder. And plus, Lord Peter doesn't come in until halfway through it seems!

Did you read "Strong Poison" before or after this? or at all?

I have recently viewed three Lord Peter movies, one with Ian Carmichael (Clouds of Witness) and two with Edward Petherbridge (Strong Poison, Gaudy Night).

I must say Petherbridge fits the physical description of Lord Peter millions of times better than Carmichael. He also is the more romantic Lord Peter (that somewhat shown by the presence of Harriet Vane [actress Harriet Walter]). I enjoyed Petherbridge's more, however Carmicahael's were also thoroughly enjoyable.

Busman's Honeymoon was never done with Petherbridge because they could not get the rights to it from another company in Hollywood (who had them from a 1930s or 40s movie).

It's been awhile since I've seen any movies, but Ian Carmichael never seemed right in the role. I much preferred Edward Petherbridge. Carmichael was just too different physically from Lord Peter's description and I was always wondering who this imposter was.
