Are men with hairy feet sexy? *mischievious look at hobbits*
But yes, I shave my legs and armpits. Sometimes. I can't be stuffed if it's not going to be seen.

Wow HOBBIT, I never thought of that. I guess it is harder for guys in that respect.
Anyway, I personally feel better shaving, though I realize that it's only culture. I don't really mind going along with it. Like for example, dressing well. If nobody cared, I would dress like I do at home: a total slob. But culturally, I don't think it would go over as well. I don't mind. I don't like having hairy armpits though so I would shave them anyway, I think. I just don't like razor burn and having to pay for new blades. Other than that I don't care.
I suppose it comes fust as much from girls as from guys. I first started shaving because in the locker room at gym class, I didn't like having hairy legs in front of the girls. There are no guys in the girls locker room then, so I could hardly blame it on men now could I?
Guys, personally, I don't care if you shave or not. But, if you're not going to shave your armpits, please avoid showing off your underarm hair. I have seen that more times than anyone should ever have to. No, I don't find it attractive. At all.

Tristan, I couldn't agree more. To blame any one group for mass-leg-shaving is just damned silly. That's like saying that the blame for anorexia is solely the models' fault. Things are usually more complicated than that. And yes, good point about the reciprocal pressure for men to look good.

By extreme, I meant:
bike racers, who are extremely into the sport to the utmost extreme.
swimmers, same story.
wrestlers, maybe. It makes them smoother and harder to grab.
People whose arms are constantly being set on fire for being so hairy.
homosexuals.

I think it's a Western European Cultural phenomenon because in most of southern Europe women don't do it so much, if at all.

Perhaps not in France and Italy, but in Spain it's also the general rule for women.

I don't think they shave in Belgium either. Do they?

Hmpf. I have been shaved and not shaved, and never noticed any difference in men's attention. Asians haven't got much body hair anyway. Not such a big deal, imo.

Armpit hairs are different. Shaved armpits doesn't smell that much.

I guess that's why our Entmoot Armpit Guy has 'em shaved. I don't think he fits in any of the "extreme" situations previously mentioned

I knew that my message would force some comments .....

I don't ever want to hear a bad comment about feminists again. I don't think that a normal, healthy feminist wants to rule the world, she just want's to free the world from the dominion of men.
I don't say that women should rule the world. Not at all. I just say that there should be equality between the genders.

And I don't believe, that man don't force women to shave themselves. They do. If a girl doesn't it is clear that she has to count with bad comments about her and everybody will stare at her.

It's very hard nowadays, not to shave for a women.

The few middle eastern women I have known have been practically obsessed with hair removal. I remember one Iranian girl who plucked her legs! Of course, middle eastern women arn't the most liberated lot!
Unless you are dating "Hairy Hippie", once you start seriously trying to catch a fellow's eye, you usually start shaving....why? Because the other girls do! You don't want to look less sexy than them! It is culture! (and competition ) Growing my own knee socks is gross!

Women will make those comments to about your unshaveness.

No male is holding a gun to your head to make you shave.

.
To blame men on shaving your arm pits and legs is like men blaming women on having to shave their beards.

It is a cultural product that is not SOLELY enforced by either gender.

The two American men are contemplating suicide because the American woman will not shut up and complains relentlessly about her body, the true nature of feminism, what the sun is doing to her skin, how she can do anything they can do, the necessity of fulfillment, the equal division of household chores, how sand and palm trees make her look fat, how her last boyfriend respected her opinions and treated her a lot better than they do, and how her relationship with her mother is the cause of all her problems, and why didn't they bring a cell phone with them so they could call 911 and get them all rescued from this godforsaken deserted island in the middle of nowhere... so she can get her nails done and go shopping.

*sigh*
I wish the day will come when women have self-confidence enough to do what they like, and not what they think other people expect of them.

Okay, is there some significance for bringing these terms into this thread?

I don't know, ask Bombadillo about the significance- he's the one that introduced the term originally.

I was just supplying the definition for someone who asked, and putting it in context.
