Oh right................in that case it would be fish and chips

How the hell someone decided to take a perfectly good piece of fish and cover it in and inch of doughy, soggy, deep-fried batter is beyond me.

Yeah - in newspapers right? Nothing better than a luverly oil, vinegar & ink combo to start yer day

(beer batter's not too bad, but I prefer me fish grilled rather than fried)

hehe that's the stuff, yer need the constition of a bull to stomach that lot for breakfast

I've been racking (or should that be wrecking?) my braincell for half an hour..........and I can't think on one single culinary delight the UK has given to the world (except for the british inventing a whole host of Indian curry dishes, but they did that in india so it hardly counts :/ ).

Fish and chips? Hey, that was good ole english boy Arthur Treacher! I remember when he had a chain of fish and chip fast food restaurants here in the states, back in the swingin sixties. It was when England ruled the world due to the Beatles and the British invasion. My husband and I have mentioned many times how Arthur Treacher's fish and chips were the BEST! (this said as we are eating Long John Silver's! )

Long John Silver's what?? NO! ........Long John Silvers is a "deep fat fried" seafood fast food chain in the states. (Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas immortalized "Long Dong Silver" for us! )

They weren't wrapped in real newspaper, but the malt vinegar was perfect!

A good, big, juicy, home-charbroiled burger with tomatoes, onions, crispy lettuce, bacon, real cheese, mustard, mayo, pickles and/or relish, and a little BBQ sauce.

Though soft shell tacos with all the toppings is my absolut favourite food.

I miss good old fashioned malt vinegar ..........nowadays it's all that balsamic flavoured with vanilla pod rubbish. How on earth is that stuff supposed to cut through 1/8th of an inch of grease?

That's not American cuisine - that's fast food crap. I've also noticed that the south and midwest eat much more fatty and deep fried foods than on the west and east coast. In Indiana - I went to Octoberfest (don't ask - they sell NO German food there) they had deep fired TWINKIES.

The people eating them will then be the same people who complain they're fat or maybe go so far to sue some company because they didn't warn them that if you take a twinkie and deep fry it - it makes you gain a billion pounds - not to mention all the other health problems..

mmm, grease...
I do love fish n' chips, though! Can't have 'em too often though. That's the one greasy food I really like. The rest...can't take all the grease.
