All the book is great, but my favourite part is the story of Beren and Lúthien. *sigh* I also liked Ainulindale a lot.

Strider sitting in the corner at the inn was a shock, and I had no more idea who he was than had Frodo. The Mines of Moria had been a mere name; and of Lothlórien no word had reached my mortal ears till I came there. Far away I knew there were the Horse-lords on the confines of an ancient Kingdom of Men, but Fangorn Forest was an unforeseen adventure." ~ J. R. R. Tolkien

Absolutely. One of the best parts of the book.

I like Fingolfin vs. Melkor, and when the Naugrim killed a (or the?) dragon

The Ainulindalë, because of the whole creation story, and that music, the command "Behold your Music!" and the wonder of the Valar, and the "gotcha" at the end of the chapter, that the vision was just that, and that upon entering Eä they had to labor to create what they had seen.

Thus one should consider: "Being angry with another person, what can you do to him? Can you destroy his virtue and his other good qualities? Have you not come to your present state by your own actions, and will also go hence according to your own actions? Anger towards another is just as if someone wishing to hit another person takes hold of glowing coals, or a heated iron-rod, or of excrement. And, in the same way, if the other person is angry with you, what can he do to you? Can he destroy your virtue and your other good qualities? He too has come to his present state by his own actions and will go hence according to his own actions. Like an unaccepted gift or like a handful of dirt thrown against the wind, his anger will fall back on his own head."

I might as well list every chapter! The book as a whole is my favorite part.

Upon first reading my favorite parts were Finrod's discovery and first meeting with men, Tears Unnumbered, the awakening of the elves, Fingolfin's battle with Morgoth, and Beleg's death... among other parts.

During my second reading The Flight of the Noldor had become another favorite. There are so many great moments in the book, I could not list them all, but there is something that I love and I never see anyone else mention:

Quote:
As three great jewels they were in form. But not until the End, when Feanor shall return who perished ere the Sun was made, and sits now in the Halls of Awaiting and comes no more among his kin; not until the Sun passes and the Moon falls, shall it be known of what substance they were made.
I just love that about Feanor "who perished ere the Sun was made"... and not until "the Sun passes and the Moon falls"...

I would even go as far as saying that the loss of those words would be the greatest of losses if one were to apply the Sun and Moon idea told in Myth's Transformed.

Lúthien and Beren, I LOVED that part! I liked reading it after when knowing that Tolkien described himself, though he more resembled Bilbo, to be Beren, and his wife Lúthien.

I really liked the Ainulindalë as well.

I liked the whole book! Even though I didn't understand alot of it.

My favorite part? Chapters 1 through 24, the Ainulindale, Valaquenta, Akallabeth, Of The Rings Of Power And The Third Age. The Tables were good also, as were the Note on Pronunciation and Indices and Appendix. Oh gosh! How could I forget!! The Map... good also. Sheesh!! How could I forget the Forward and Preface... what was I thinking!!!
