At least the hairy feet are easy to make.

Just put priit stick on your feet, and then pull out some head hair to stick on.

It may sound painful but were talking hairy feet here!

Yeah, I've been to that site too. But those are STILL not quite what I was going for. They're too...for lack of better work..Spock-y
They've got that freeky unnatural curve that I was talking about. Alot of mass produced pointy ears I've seen have either an up ward or downward curve that just dosnt work for me. But thats ok cause I'm makein my own...soon as I can figure out Latex, Mold-makeing and barrier coating compounds (Should be getting info back on that in a few days). Still the fact that you whent lookin is much appreciated

Also it should be noted that its a good thing I've decided to give a go at makeing my own because it will give me a head start of experience for my senior project in 2003

Hey, Feraway...what is your senior project? I'm guessing something Tolkien or costume related...but I could be wrong...

I'd reccomend trying it (it's not that expensive to get a small bottle). But be sure you have somethig around you can use to get it off...instead of just ripping off the latex from your ears...*wince*.
yea, i forgot about the remover part.
see, our schools drama dept. is so poor that we just rip em off.. sure it sucks, but we learn not to be wusses after a while. the searing pain doens't last long.
i think that come musical time, im gonna fashion up some nice ears.

hmm..

Update on the hunt for decent latex ear appliances:
Well, actually I'm not hunting for myselt anywmore, i'm just going to make my own that way i can get exactly what I want, but I wanted to post what I've just found for those who dont want to or cant make their own.

http://www.nu-products.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=600107

They're good looking, they're still not quite to my likeing, least not for this project (Can you tell I'm picky?), but they are still very nice and the best I've found so far. They're made of foam latex instead of slip latex wich is cool becuase Foam latex is more comfortable than regular latex. And the price isnt too bad either.

Well thats all for now.

The difference is, the ones I just posted are sculpted better and are more than just the very tips. They're longer too.

so how are people doing with their new ears and feet? i opted not to try and go to the trouble of trying to sculpt my own elf ears, i've just taken to wearing part of my hair in front of my ears like the elves in the movie do, it really makes them look pointier!

I have elf-ears! Well, they aren't that great. . .I got them at 'Display and Costume,' a big costume/party store near my house (well, relatively near. . .) I think they can be found at most costume stores. But they are the wrong color, so Tano (who has her own) and I need to fix our ears so that they will look right. They are also a bit too pointy if you ask me, but it's all good. I'm going to where them to school sometime, just to see people's reactions. I might do that with my vampire teeth as well!

Or both heheh

Yes..over pointy-ness and color problems are the bigest problem when shopping in the mass produced market. Makeing your own definatly has its advantages.

Oh, update on mine: well I had to scr@p version one because basically I was trying to make alterations too late and I was more or less doing it backwards (Working from the outside inwards, when it should have been form the inside outwards) wich was only makeing it harder. So this brings me to plan B, I'm going to lifecast my ears and use the positive molds as bases to sculpt off of then make slip molds of the final product. This is going to be more difficult but if i can pull it off the result will the very nice. However i cant start until I get my casting and molding book from Burman Indistries, I know how to do it and what materials to use, but i dont want to make any foul ups so having written instructions with me would be the wise choice...just in case....cause it would really suck to screw up.

As far as feet go, I dont think I'm going to bother with that (Didnt intend to to begin with), for several reasons, One being I'm just playing around and dont intend to do a full costume and another being that I just dont have that kind of skill...yet.

That sounds really cool, Feraway! I have neither the skill nor the time to do anyything like that....so I must stick with the little pointy mass produced latex. Sigh. Oh well. They work quite well, actually, or at least they will when they're the right color...I'm planning to wear them to school on my birthday.
I never really planned on feet, either...especially since the one time I can think that I'll be wearing a hobbit costume is at the TT opening, and standing around barefoot....or nearly barefoot...heh...in december? No thanks!

so you're going as a hobbit, tano? i was planning on going as an elf, but that has its disadvantages: what self-respecting elf would go anywhere without a bow and quiver full of arrows? i sincerely doubt that the cinema management would let me in with a weapon so blatantly obvious...so i'll probably b going as a hobbit too. must...reread...TTT (and RotK) before December!! that's easy as pie! actually easier, as i've never made pie and i have read the LotR all the way thru.

i'm rambling, aren't i? oh well.. i'm with tano, in that i have neither the skill nor the time nor the equipment to make my own ears. oh well

yes i'm definitely rambling..

I don't have time to make my own ears either. I wish I could bring a bow to the theatre, but I'll have to be an elf without it for this once. Darn. Not like I don't have a quiver and a bow, but I do believe I wouldn't be allowed in. So sad. Oh, and since I know Tano, and she's not here at the moment. . .
We're going to TTT as members of the Fellowship. I'm Legolas, she's Pippin.

I neither have skill nor time to make me some elfen ears. sadly enough I don't even have access to mass-production-ears. So in my best interest I think I'll have to join the elves-don't-have-pointy-ears-believers....

you could try making clips or something to hold your ears in a pointy position (nibs mentioned something like this earlier in the thread, i like the idea but it kinda got dropped an' i don't know how to do it), or you could try the fail-safe ouch-proof method - put part of your hair in front of your ears like galadriel etc. it really works! my ears are already mostly pointed but not quite elf-pointed, and this seems to give the illusion of really pointy ears.
