There's quite a few thread titles that have done that to me - suggested something quite different.

I'm slowly becoming a Calibri fan. Windows default USED to be Times New Roman (which is probably why most Americans have to write papers in it), but with Office 2007, for some reason, they switched. It bugged the crap out of me because now I had to change my font and size, etc. But I think I'm starting to like it.
On papers anyway. I work for my University's web office and Calibri on our website means terrible things for me and my coworkers, so if I see it online, I cringe, but in documents, it looks nice.

OK - there used to be this "Tolkien" font - and now I cannot find it anymore. I wonder if the Tolkien Estate attorneys had it removed.

Can you describe what it looked like? I have a couple fonts with "Tolkien" as their title...

I don't quite agree - I think Comic Sans is cute.
But that also means that it should only be used for cute topics, like kids' web sites and the like, not for anything that you want people to take seriously. In print? It works fine for "You are invited to my 5th Birthday Party " - but not much else.

I prefer regular Times New Roman for writing, Calibri for quoting and Cambria for titles

This is what I found on Tolkien fonts. None of them are named Tolkien.
I don't know if they're free or not, but some of them look neat. I particularly like the one that's in Bilbo's handwriting.

My newest favorite is one called Tolkien. It looks just like his handwriting, and is free to download.

EllethValatari, you are very fortunate to have read Principia in the eighth grade. Had you also learned Calculus by then? Could you follow the mathematics?
If you have an edition of Principia that has been edited so that Newton’s original notation is faithfully transcribed, look carefully at the equations of momentum and acceleration: Newton anticipates Einstein’s theory of relativity. |

Yes I am. And I'm very thankful for the middle school education I had. I had not learned Calculus by then; we were actually studying geometry. This made the study of his work difficult, obviously, but that was the point. Each week we were required to present and explain a corollary, proposition, etc. We had a week to prepare and study the idea, and then present it best we could. To follow the mathematics, we either had to speak with the math department head to help us out or look it up-still very difficult with the mind of an 8th grader. We did the same thing with Euclid's Elements in geometry class. In addition to using whatever geometry textbook, we had to present one of Euclid's proofs twice a week. I think we finished Book 5 by the end of the year. Doing those proofs really sparked my love of mathematics, and I plan to major in Pure Mathematics, and hopefully achieve my phD in mathematics at MIT.
Sorry for the life story...I'll have to look at my book and see if it has the original notations- pretty sure it does.
