Hey, nice to see you join the election, Varna.

Why don't you put yourself up for candidate, Inked? You clearly have the debating style with added mudslinging pegged.

Probably a source of methane too. Now if this was an oligarchy, I would have confiscated all lobbyists and have them thrown in the nearest carbon sink, but apparently that isn't democratic enough. *grumblegrumble*

Hector has done a really good job and should be President for Life, even if he abandoned the job. One could raise all sorts of rancor and debate involving opinions in these matters and it's just not good for morale and pennyante personalities who get upset over the slightest infraction of their personal universes by realities like data.

Speaking of which, are votes going to actually be counted and kept in a vault by Price and Waterhouse accountants like for really important things like the Oscars, or is this going to be done in an open and transparent "hope-y, change-y" sort of way with NOBEL Prizes given for being on the post for 7 days already or do ya really have to waith for nine days to qualify?
Are the elections going to be certified by the UN?

I have real questions about this whole charade which is only allowed by the true oligarchy of mods and admins to give the merest wisp of the appearance of "democracy" and "responsiveness to the dear underlings who support our rule". At times, I have wondered if Hector were not merely a mouthpiece for the establishment in spite of valiant efforts to bring truth, honesty, beauty, and music to the Entmoot Way.

But I digress, in the current economy, who can afford lobbyists? Shouldn't the government take from those who have and give equally. Call it redistribution, call it "hope - change", call it socialism and leftist oriented healthcare, but DO NOT MAKE THE PEONS PAY FOR THE LOBBYISTS! That way everyone will have them and they will be worthless.

Do lobbyists increase calving of icebergs?

OMG!!!! *staggers under the weight of the post*

T....L....D....R.... *faints*

You lost me at 'perhaps', but I'm ready to grant you whatever you want if you can put it in smaller words. ... except I'm not really in a position to do that, since apparently this is not a dictatorship. Ugh.

Also Midge now has my vote, but only because I'm fickle like that. I know I just said Ink could have whatever he wanted, but that was an entire paragraph ago. Times change, much like the presidentship, and much like daylight's saving time.

Hey! Can mods be the President too? That sounds an awful lot like... a multiple dictatorship! Or some kind of aristocracy, where we un-modded people have no power!

Yes, among other brutal authoritarian powers that they have. I can't say much, because they're holding my stash of caramel apples hostage.

Can we? I didn't think Administrators or Moderators could run.

Either way, that doesn't quite seem fair...

HAH. Sorry, that's super hard to say with a straight face. Aaaaah.

Hector, do you have any lobbyists left over? You should sell them for a bunch of caramel apples. You know they'd do the same for you if they had the chance and it seemed worth it to them.

Right?

I think...

I gave up lobbyholism a long time ago . It was hard, but there are rehab centers to help you get rid of it .

Tomorrow evening I will have drawn up and posted some basic questions for any candidates to answer. Study up!

Good night everyone

Mods and admins have run for and even been president before. Sister Golden Hair was candidate in 2004, I think. And I don't think anyone felt particularly repressed under first president HOBBIT's rule. But it is up to everyone for himself or herself to decide whether to participate, regular members and mods alike. Mods that want to run for presidency don't get involved in the actual voting and counting process. So they don't get any unfair advantage if only because we wouldn't hear the end of it if we ever tried.

I myself have not run or voted in any election where I manned the ballot box. Not only was it a perfect excuse not to have to meddle in politics but if that doesn't assure you the Entmoot elections are ethically handled, I don't know what will.

Oh shush. That wasn't us, that was the Health and Safety department, those apples had maggots, like this big. But you're trying to cover it up, aren't you? You, you, politician.

Technically, there's no rule against it. But if the people of the Entmoot want to elect a mod or admin as president by democratic process, who are we to stop them, really? Doesn't president Tessar have a nice ring to it?

ETA, So maybe it'll be President Tessar and Vice-President Valandil. That sounds good..... Although, i'll stick to my original idea that it should be the other way around.

May the best man win!

I think Val and Tess should BOTH run, with EACH OTHER as their VP candidates. That will make everything deliciously complicated.

Bloody brawls in the Teacup between Val-Tess supporters and Tess-Val supporters. How can you not love it? It'll be green and purple Drazi.

Brawls? Hmmm... I doubt it. But maybe we'll see.

I'm flattered. I hadn't been thinking about it, but now I'll have to.

(Have to think about it, that is - not have to run!)
