I do. Must of them are people I wasn't even friends with to begin with. If they want to add me, more power to them

I feel the same way. There are a couple of people whose requests I haven't accepted, but in general so long as the person isn't seeking to be extremely intrusive I'm willing to friend them even if we don't get along perfectly.

The only thing I'm not crazy about as far as Facebook goes are the applications. Some of them are really fun but getting invites for them all of the time is so annoying. I usually let a few months go by, then just go in and delete everything... sometimes 20-30 at a time.

I set my facebook profile to maximum security right near the beginning, as soon as I learned how to do that. How do you guys feel about it?

My rule of thumb is to try not to say things that could have repercussions... For instance if I skipped classes so that I could go to a concert (unlikely, but the best situation I could think of ) I would never post about it on my facebook whether the relevant professors were friends with me on facebook or not.

How do you guys handle the privacy issues?

I do not share things I would think people can hold against me even when I'm 82. I pulled all my pictures too and I regret that I can't get the pictures I'm tagged in off.
Actually, I deleted everything when the new Terms of Service were implemented (Even though they are now reverted to the old ones).

Mari, I believe if someone puts up a photo and tags you in it, you can go in and delete the tag. You can't delete the photo, obviously, but you can go in and remove the name tag.

Really? Oh, I should do that. There are a few photos on it that aren't exactly embarrassing, but I don't like the thought of a prospective employer somehow being able to see my heated face in not very stylish shorts back in Japan
Thanks, Tess!

Thanks, Tess!

You're welcome .

Part of the reason I have my profile set to max security is that some day (WHEN I'M ALL, LIKE, SUPER FAMOUS AND STUFF ) I don't want just anyone being able to get information on me.

Heck, beyond that I want any future employers to have to get to know me by talking to me, not by being able to google me and see what I've said on message boards.

Regardless, I try to keep the message board stuff on the level, but still .

I just reread that quote of mine and I just like to say that it's not my heated face in those not very stylish shorts. I reserve that one for my legs. It should be: a heated face and I'm also wearing not so stylish shorts. >_<
On EF, someone would have noticed that by now... :P

I have facebook and twitter... I used to do the online journal thing (LiveJournal in high school, Xanga in college) but I got bored with them. I never had much to write and the only people that read the entries were my roommates who already knew about whatever I was writing about in the first place lol.

Facebook I mainly keep so I can show people my pictures from being here in England (though I have the maximum possible security on them, I have it set so that only a specific group of people can see them). Twitter I have because it amuses me to write in little snippets like that. And I like following people like Neil Gaiman and Nathan Fillion.

I've finally "gotten" twitter - I use it mainly to follow interesting people, and in some ways, since I downloaded tweetdeck, I use it instead of my RSS feeds. I also follow Nathan Fillion & Neil Gaiman. Felicia Day is awesome to follow (creator of webseries 'the guild').

@BeardofPants for twitter.

Tess? I don't believe I have your facebook addy - can you PM? Of course, if you don't, I'll think you hate me, and then I'll have to perform seppuku or summin'. *bigsadface*

I'm tempted to get twitter for that exact reason; there are a number of interesting people like Neil Gaiman and Stephen Fry whom I know are twitterers, or whatever you call it. In the end, however, I just hate the basic idea of twitter too much to cave in, and I'm content with facebook.

Oh please. After the way you've treated me in the past?

Never would I, in a MILLION years, consider not sending you my facebook page.

Dork. You're probably operating on the 'old' premise of twitter, i.e. "mah hair looks funneh today & I crapped wheatabix!". Savvy people use it to spread memes & interesting links.

But you can follow those people perfectly without actually having Twitter, if I'm not mistaken. You'd only need Twitter if you want to respond to their twittering, and tell them their hair looks funneh.
