And I agree with whoever said who needs palm pilots. They definitely qualify as one of those things that you dont need until you have it and then when you have one you cant be with out it so for that reason alone Im avoiding getting one like the plauge.

Well, I don't consider myself a gadgety person - OK, I have a PC, microwave(s), and the usual entertainment stuff and yeah I have 2 cellphones (one with a built in camera - but I can't seem to figger the bedamned thing out) - both have on screen displays with whatever logo my brother deems fit (he's 17 & likes playing around with my phone) and we play games against each other with our phones via infrared (what can I say - easily amused), but then again I use my phone to browse the web, send e-mails, faxes etc so it's quite handy. My friend & I always ensure that we have at least one phone with us when we go out - just in case something happens (what usually happens is that we get pissed outa our brackets & sart phoning everyone we know - even her brother in England

Unfortunately, I happen to know what a commodor 64 is. I also know what an Atari is, as well as an Amiga. Why, you ask? Because my dratted BF has a collection of them lying around the apartment!

I don't think I'm too dependent on technology. True, if my computer was taken away you would most likely find me dead within the next 24 hours, but that's not likely. My mom uses the comp when I don't so no danger in that region. TV's are optional, I never watch mine. Electric lights are very nice. Stove? Needed cuz I can't cook so my parents have to, microwave, yes, for the slender bit of cooking I can do.

I have the following: 1 Microwave 1 TV and VCR...no cable, sattelite, OR even channels 1 family cell phone...used when mum needs sugar from the grocery store, or when I need to get ahold of my friend Merry. 1 Computer which is my main outlet to the outside world. 2 cars which are making us all sick to our stomach because of the fumes All the room in the world...and I'll be sacraficing that because of CONVENIENCE!!! I'M MOVING BACK TO THE CITY!!!! *runs around in frantic circles then glares at congrssmn* Would you live in a world where the sweetest odour was that of gasoline? Would you live in a world where the only color was that of the cars speeding past too busy to even stop and see the calamity that is falling on their very heads? Would you live in a world where the stars were blotted out by the harsh lights of civilization...forever? Would you live without the sound of humming bird wings, or bee stings? If so then I do think you should be banished to the caverns of Isengard, for your life would be meaningless. Cheers, Sam the tired, saddended because she won't be able to see the stars at her new home, and slightly irritated by technology hobbit.

I like gadgets. But I haven't been buying any lately. I did win my palm pilot and it comes in VERY handy. Much better to carry that around than a huge address book. I also have games on it and keep other information on it.
I have digital cable with 400 channels - many of them documentary channels such as the History Channel, History International, The Learning Channel, Discovery, Science Channel, The Health Channel (it shows various operations and things). How could anyone live without the internet today? It has in the short time the web has been around - 20 years - changed our lives so much. It overs bill paying, purchasing, research, so much. I could not imagine not living with the web and the internet. I can't wait until the web and tv combine and I'm not talking about web-tv either. Technology is what makes humans humans and different from other animals. It's what makes our lives easier and yes - in some cases more hectic. Because of electric lights - people no longer go to bed soon after dusk. Because of 24 hour tv and the internet - people have a habit of staying up into the early morning hours. There is no down time anymore. I however would not give up the benefits that technology has given us.

![]() I don't have a microwave, either. We still pop popcorn on our stove. ![]() I would rather not have a tv or cable, but my husband is a sports fan, so we do. Besides, I do like to watch movies, and a vcr or dvd player is no good w/ out a tv. ![]() I bought a cell phone last year for the free ling distance, and also because I travel alone by car a lot and like the security in case of an emergency. The advantage of being "older" when all this stuff is going on is that you can remember when it wasn't around, which puts it all in perspective. For instance, I can't imagine living without a toilet, but in the old days, some people thought it was gross and unsanitary to have a toilet INSIDE THE HOUSE! ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, the older I get, the less techno stuff I want. I want to have no bills, so my husband can stay home and piddle with antique tractors and his Martin all day!

*holds head in hands and weeps*
You folks are talkin' about fond memories of the C64 and my first computer was the sinclair zx81 ! ![]() ![]() ![]() I remember when my parents upgraded from a black and white TV (no wonder so many of my generation wear glasses) to their first colour telly (and even that was a "keep-fit" set, yer had to get off yer backside to change channels). The telly I've got here only has 5 channels..........I only ever turn the thing on to get the news, although it is remote control! I have a microwave, I'm a single man, I'd starve to death without it. I do have a mobile phone but if I want to take it with me I usually have to phone it from my landline to locate where in the house it is (I only really carry it if I've got my friends kids with me or I'm travelling over a lot of countryside, if I'm socialising or shopping, I don't wanna be disturbed by the phone). I don't own a Palm Pilot, file o fax or even a diary ........... I don't live the kinda life that has a plan ![]() ![]() I still don't know how to operate all the functions on my digital watch ![]() Some technology I love.......I couldn't go back to clunking away at a manual typewriter after discovering the wonders of the word processor ![]() So no, I don't suppose I do use a lot of gadgets..........I tend to buy a lot, but if they don't become very usufull almost immediatly they get either shut in a drawer or locked in a cupboard never to be seen again ![]() I do use a lot of gadgets that are fun tho'..............My doorbell is attached to my stereo......so I can play pretty much wotever I like as a tune (good for scaring the postman that one) and of course I have the obligatory toilet roll holder that also has a radio, teasmaid and ashtray built in ![]() So.......does technology make me feel old? Not really, if I ever figure out how to program the VCR or discover exactly why my vacuum cleaner actually needs 23 different attachements, then I'll feel old ![]() |
