I generally just keep the old spelling rules. I like the "ou" thing that has been obliterated in American English, and also the "centre" and "theatre". Even though I know I spelled it theater earlier. I like things that make sense to me, like "worshipping" and "cancelled" which are both spelled wrongly, but not phonetically. It's a personal preference and I won't change it for stupid essays and stuff.

Other than that, I do really like to spell! It's right up there with musicalling.

Well, good luck!

But latte macchiato should be considered as borrowed words, so if they' d change the spelling on that as well, they really would have gone overboard!

Let me put it the other way around, what joy can you find in your own language if the spelling rules are so insane that almost no-one can spell the language correctly without the latest dictionary? And everytime students and other people have finally mastered the very un-intuitive spelling, they go around and change it to something even more bonkers. Does English have two pages of rules when and when not to use capital letters, for example? I hope not, but Dutch does, at that's only the tip of the iceberg of stone-cold madness. IMO Dutch as a language has been murdered by committee and that's just terribly sad.
