I think boromirs death was an importnt part of the development of the story.
1 The fellowship was broken, everyone moved on.
2 Denethor woulnt have gone mad and that would have changed everything.
3 Boromir wouldnt have had such a valiant end ( dying saving the hobbits and all)

I don't think Boromir was evil - he just wanted to use the ring to help his people. I would rather Boromir had lived. He was a great warrior and would have been a great help at Helm's Deep and Pelennor Fields. I think that if Boromir had lived, Denethor would have killed himself anyway, since the whole war seemed lost to him.

it was his destiny to die.

Borimer had to go. He is very similar to sonny corleone from the godfather. Not a bad guy but basicly an idiot who always thought he was right and a strong willed idiot at that. He would have been more of a problem than a help. If he was a commander in nam he would have been killed by his own men.

Personaly, Boromir was a dumbass. All he wants is power, and KArma bit him in the ass. If the orcs didnot kill him, i would hope Aragorn would kill him when he gets pissed off about him always trying to get the ring.
OH YOUR DEAD

anyways well since Boromir was such a champ i will say yes... Of course he would have been a help if only for his fighting... just look at the piles of weapons of the dead that he was laid to rest with... not only was he a complete Hero but the story would have been awesome with that extra battle pig

Gollum

im indiffrent
he could've been a big help in the battles..like in moria or helms deep
but he could've caused more problems in trying to take the ring away from frodo

I agree! but at the same time i think he would have helped if he hadn't been killed. He was a good person but he may have caused problems when it came to the Ring.

I'm not really sure. I never really liked him much, but it's not like I hate him like I do Aragorn. I guess I'd have him live. After all, he's a good guy.

Why do you hate Aragorn so much?

I don't know...he's one of those characters who I don't like but don't know exactly why. It seems to me like he's always doing something that steals the spotlight from Frodo and Sam, who are the real heroes. Aragorn won some battles; I don't really think that should consider him a hero. I think he's kind of arrogant and Tolkien made him so perfect... I dunno. I just don't like him.

ohhh well one death threat per thread is enough
hmm well maybe if you saw aragorn as a main carachter like i do you would think differently... i saw it as a 2 part plan and they would have been in vain if either failed so i see aragons part as vital to the story and worthy of recognition... i think it was also about the situations being different... Aragorns journey as a whole compared to frodo's was naturally more heroic looking on paper because it was exciting, after all i would prefer reading battle over 2 hobbits having a stroll through mordor...

He had already fought in moria and i dont think he would try to take the ring from frodo because after he attacked him he knew it was wrong and frodo would have been far from him

Borimir had to die. Think about it. He was out of control, always thinking about The Ring, always planning ways to use The Ring. The Ring, The Ring, The Ring... its all about The Ring. He had to die, no matter how much help he could have been at any of the battles. He was always going to have The Ring on his mind.

As for the comments about Legolas: I do not believe that the character is gay. However, I can not make any comments on Orlando Bloom, I know nothing about him, save his involvement in the three movies. So, quit saying Legolas is gay. I don't think that JRRT would have written him as gay. Jeeze, he wouldn't put anything in the book even remotely racey, why would he make a character homosexual. What, are you 12 yrs old or something?

Sorry, I have no patience today. I used up my allotment for today yesterday.
