Gandalf Favorite Valar

Mine would have to be Tulkas - he wasnt afraid of anything and laughed in the face of Melkor himself

I like all the Valar. They each contributed important talents to the world.

In order:

Nienna
Ulmo
Orome
Manwe
Varda

It seems like those five were the only ones who didn't abandon middle earth.
Nienna emphathized for everybody there.
Ulmo's power was throught the water, and his thought was always with the free people.
Orome was really pissed when they withdrew, and used to go hunting in middle earth when the other valar were hiding away.
Manwe and Varda could see/hear almost everything that went on, and they acted (directly or indirectly) throughout history.

but Yavanna didn't abandon Middle Earth too.

my favorites are:
Ulmo, Manwe and Tulkas because

Ulmo-he always helped the elves

Manwe-he was the smartest

Tulkas-he was the bravest and because he loughed in Melkor's face

Your favorite Vala is Nienna, Shannon? You're sensitive? No way ...

Radagast, I do not agree that Tulkas was brave. In my opinion bravery is about overcoming your fears, facing them, doing things even though you are afraid, things like that. Tulkas was fearless. He was mighty and powerful and full of extroardinary ability, but I do not think he was brave.

I like Varda the most becase she made the stars, and she gave hope for the elves.
her name helped for frodo in the LOTR.

Tom Bombadil Two Favorites Necessary

I have already identified my favorite (masculine) Valar to be Orome, but I am remiss. While I admire the hunter of monters and fell beasts, I love Vana, the spouse of Orome.

"Vana, the ever young; she is the younger sister of Yavanna. All flowers spring as she passes and open if she glances upon them; and all birds sing at her coming."

Aule?

Somebody earlier said Aule. Aule sucks.

After all, he taught Sauron and Saruman. He also made dwarves. Nobody needs dwarves. Kidding.

Somebody also earlier said that the entire entourage of his "siblings" wasn't enough to take on Melkor. Actually, the rest of the Valar were concentrating their powers on keeping the world in order, limiting and fixing the damage that Melkor was doing - had they concentrated on ridding Arda of the Dark Lord they would - hey presto they did.

Henceforth Melkor, who had actually transfered most of his power into the earth and his fellow evildoers, was not really as powerful as many thought he was (although when Iluvatar first conceieved of him, he was the most powerful).

I would have said "it would have been interesting" but nobody asked me.

Aule doesn't suck - I was just joking...

I have no doubt that Melkor was created the mightiest being. However, I believe that after Ungoliant drank the sap of the trees and consumed the silmarils, she became the most powerful being. Melkor was continually growing weaker and weaker.

MasterMothra > what if Morgoth had created a One-Ring ?? hmmm....

Well, Ungoliant didn't consume the Silmarils. It was actually a handful of petty jewels that Morgoth swiped from Formenos. Morgoth would not offer up the Silmarils to Ungoliant.

that would be interesting indeed anduril.

remember the marvel comics series "what if.."
they need one for the sil.

sister is right, ungy had some fakes, morg would never give the sils to anyone. when feanor slammed the door on morg, morg had already taken the sils. so the references to morgoth being the mightiest being in ea, are after the raping of the sils and the destroying of the two trees.

i think that morgoth grew more powerful before his unfortunate, and totally unjustified imprisoning in the darkness. bum rap, wish johnny cocharan would have been around then.

damn, im still only a hobbit. i shall never live up to my potential.
