Encourage him to go back and ask when he's not sure how to do things. That's a good way of learning his job - when he knows what to ask for, he's already learnt some of it, and then to be explained the details he's missing, fills in the holes nicely. And during the first few days (or even weeks) at work, his colleagues should expect a few questions.

I've actually been praised by my previous boss for asking rather than guessing. She mentioned it in her speech at the farewell party on my last day of work, nine years ago. When I had started doing something and realised I wasn't sure what we had agreed on or how I'd been told to do it, I would come back and ask. She had noticed, and she thought it was a good thing.

Yes, in my experience, employers would prefer a new employee who asks questions and does the job right than one who doesn't ask and gets it wrong consistently. I've been at my job and I still ask questions before I do things to make sure I'm not screwing stuff up.

Besides, how can he really internalize how to do tasks correctly if he doesn't make an effort to learn them correctly now, at the beginning of his job?

See that's my feeling, and it's how I approach new things. I'm always asking questions.

I still make my fair share of mistakes, but I know I'd make even more if I stopped asking.

I'm torn, but I think I may stick to just offering sympathy. I really don't think he will appreciate my "constructive criticism," and even if he does I don't think he's likely to change his actions.

If your friend can't handle your feedback, he shouldn't come to you complaining. That's the road I'm always taking anyway. *shrugs* But people have told me before that I'm too honest. Question is: does that bother me?

Mari, you need to say to people, "I could tell you that being so honest is hard for me, but that would be a lie."

I was just remembering something that happened last summer at the opera camp... I was asked to do a walkon in someone else's opera scene. I was supposed to walk across stage, hand one of the singers a letter, and then leave.

I did it once just as I was asked to, and the director pulled me aside and said he wanted to see more stuff from me. You know... scratching, pulling my pants up, rubbing my nose, maybe a limp, an eye twitch, a sneer... basically be interesting.

So twice more when they practiced the scene I did it, and added something. But the director pulled me aside again and said, "I like that you're adding things, but it's still not enough. I want to see more."

So the next time I did everything he had mentioned. I scratched my ear, rubbed my eye, wiped my nose, limped, sneered at the soprano, scratched my leg, and pulled my pants up. All of this in the space of about fifteen seconds I was on stage.

Afterwards the director came up to me and said, ".... okay that was a little too much, but you have the right idea now."

Not odd, necessarily. It might just be the same person who forgot their pasword to the first account, and made a second one with a similar name.

EeeeeEEEEEEEeeeeee!!! My final is in 2 hours! I've gone over all of the practice problems and I can do them all. I feel pretty strong on all of the problems, so I'm not quite sure what to do now.

I'm taking a break for about an hour, I guess, and then... I don't know. I'll skim over the problems again just to remind myself of the little calculator tricks I need to use (putting the problem into the calculator correctly is about 75% of the battle on some of these problems...).

I'm about to explode with nervous energy. Hehe.

I can't WAIT to start my vacation break.

All I need is a 43% to pass with a C, or a 73% to pass with a B. If I get a 98% I'll get an A. Fingers crossed for that A!

It's a 600 point total, and right now I'm sitting at between 333 and 343 (not sure about the final project). The final is worth 200 points.

Just went up and talked to the teacher. I'm excited... I'm pretty sure Imma do well. Went over one thing I was a little foggy on and watched her review stuff with other people. Think I'm set.

When I was in school the threshold for the test like that was more like 70 percent was a C, 80 percent was a B, 90 and above was an A. Schools were a lot harder when i was in college.

Fortunately we only go from 1 to 10. Everything over 6 is a pass. Easy calculating

Yeah, our school just made this crap move where instead of just having F, D, C, B, and A, they are doing a plus/minus system now. Messing with our GPAs and stuff...

On a completely different note, I feel like crying movies* can be as good as chocolate in some situations. I consider the fact that, in general, women who lived before they made chick flicks were probably much stronger in personality than I am. Hmmm...

*By this I mean any movie that makes you cry - happy or sad.
