Sadly, this is very true. A prominent Catholic scholar (I can't remember his name) said that the most important rule for amiable religious discussion (which is a very good thing) is this: don't compare one religion's strength to another's weakness. Compare strength to strength.

See the MUSLIM thread, IR, where you refer to Christian terrorists et alia. And BJ's comments on Adolph's bible quotations et alia.

I, of course, agree that one doesn't judge a religion by its fanatics per se.

I thought though that burning voluntary converts alive was a bit extreme. However, if you really think that feeling threatened is a sufficient cause for violence, I have a rather lengthy list of candidates for immolation on that score. (But I really think you didn't mean it precisely in that fashion.)

My point is that the social constructs so often decried as "forcing" Christianity on people in some westerner's mindsets is really without evidence since no one has been recently converted by sword or fire in any western country (still holding out on France, though, as far as fire goes!). But apparently it's okay to "toast" people who have chosen Christianity if the majority view is Hindu in this case. Should any Christians be doing this and it be reported, I think you would object - if you survived the apoplectic seizure to type in your comments!
