What exactly can I do? Right now, the travelers are making their way through Moria, and just about to set out. I can't really GM a big baddie, because you just blasted one to smithereens. I could do another "lurking Firstborn" post, but that wouldn't advance the plot.

You could finish up that dialogue and set out, though...
