Ah, so there you go then. You'll be agreeing with me then, on the misunderstood thing?

Not in this life! If there is anything I cannot accuse Fëanor of, it is being misunderstood.

In most stories the villian is the one that mostly follows his own wild passions with little regard to other people. But also great inventors, revolutionaries, and heroes have constantly gone against the grain and persisted in their own passions. I guess it all depends on where you stand. It's just a pity that Feanor's firey spirit was consuming itself with anger more than anything else at the end.

Yes, it's a pity. Great potential, but directed and used the wrong way.

Attalus, are you comparing Fëanor to Sauron?

Only in that they both caused much misery and death. On a rating thread on another Forum, we ended up rating Fëanor a Level 4 villain, with Sauron and Morgoth being Level 5, IIRC.

O-ho-ho a villain rating! How many levels was it possible to reach?

On a rating like that I would say the purpose and cause of a deed is equally relevant as the consequences. And good qualities should count as well as the bad. Then I think Fëanor should be much better off compared to Sauron.

As high as the level you would reach, I guess.

And which of the two would you prefer to have guarding your back?
Now that is a sobering thought, you might have to worry about other than an orcs sword if you choose wrong.
