For one, the misrepresentations. JD got a 24-hour ban for flaming. He has made the choice not to come back.

And... if you think this board is overly regulated, I'm sure you know where to find some that don't suffer from this affliction.

um ...

1) i wasn't really trying to make any point per se, ...but if you want to somehow make an issue of it - then:

the old days of the moot as a board where a mixture of tolerance and respect AND some honest debate and talk, happened -

are gone .... gone in a right wing christian totalitarinarism here that, frankly, JRR Tolkien would despise.

My personal opinion - or is that no longer allowed on a Tolkien board?

I see no one has altered Hector's film child sex thread despite the widespread call, and his acceptance that to do so is ok?

2) that's how JD saw it, and it went way beyond a mere "flaming" incident - I've seen a fair share of the originals saved at the time, from various sources.

- It's just a shame SGH wasn't around in time, to stand up for him

3)
blimey - Val - i was only pretty much saying hello! As someone i generally think of as a fair-minded, perhaps, blasting mooters in open forum instead of ,as you are so fond of saying, a private word and request might not be a bad idea???

1. I just don't see the "right wing christian totalitarianism" here that you're talking about. Gee... do I have to ask SGH and Earniel to tone that down a bit? Or do you mean from me? I intentionally try to avoid the social issues, because I don't want my role as moderator to bear too much weight on anyone's mind (besides - I don't feel any measure of satisfaction from the debating - and they mostly bore me).

Besides... JRRT was a Christian - a pretty conservative one, as I understand it.

2. I see every bit as much tolerance here as ever for difficult topics - and probably more for difficult behaviors.

3. As for Hector's thread - I'm still waiting... not once has there been a reported post from it. I don't like the topic myself - but I'm tolerating it.

4. I don't quite understand what you're saying about JD.

5. Perhaps I'm going overboard with the public discussion, but these days, there are so many comments of that nature made publicly, that I begin to feel the need to give them a public response.

6. While you claim you were just saying "hello" - it sure seemed like just another shot at the Entmoot staff to me. The "overly regulated" / "JD got banned" / "god squad" stuff.

7. Meanwhile - getcher butt back over to the Middle Earth forum... you're up to bat on the Quote Game, and as you can tell, I'm short on patience tonight!

mmm ...ok,

good quote btw!

well, you know, it was just an off the cuff- not meant in any particular way

as for the widespread perception of bias -

then i formally - er - remark?? - that the thread title of the child sex oscar thread be changed.

Hector has said he is ok with that - he says it was meant as a joke.

Personally, though i sometimes feel we have been somewhat non-connecting in meanings quite often, i have never perceived you as being anything but generally fair and straight.

I think JRR would like his board to be free-thinking and rich in it's scope.

There is all the difference in the world between a tiny turn of the wheel to a percentage of a degree, that allows adults the room to self regulate and the imposition of regulation aimed at minors, - that in itself often causes problems rather than curtails them.

- the ability and respect to apply that intelligent degree on a one to one basis, would, i suggest, be very much in keeping with the ethos of JRR and the good natured manner of this board.

Welcome Back, Sween!

Welcome to Entmoot... Sessthon! Jump right in on those LOTR forums. You'll find lots more threads if you set the display to show "last year" or "from beginning" (default is "three months") and start scrolling through the pages.

Hello! I am new here, go figure. I actually found this website thru my school, because they linked me to The Tolkein Trail website when we read The Hobbit for its Tolkien bio.

Welcome to the moot Rider of Elvish Dragons.

Do you usually talk to yourself on Messae Boards? Just curious.

Vote Brendonian 2008!

Come down to the teacup cafe and start posting random things, not only will we get to know you, it will boost your post count to a ridiculous extreme.
