Also, I believe the idea of saints was introduced to help ease those who were used to living with idols in their houses into Catholicism (sp?). The medals and statues of the saints simply replaced the old idols of pagan gods. I'm not positive on this, but I'm almost positive it's true.
It's the same with Christsmas...the early Christians wanted to convert the pagans so they decided to celebrate Christ's birthday around the same time as the Saturnalia (sp) a big Roman holiday. The English name of "Easter" is , I think, the name of a pagan god/goddess. Basically, the early Christians took alot of pagan elements and turned them into Christian holidays or cultural celebrations etc.

Seems to be a lot of interest in the assimilation of pagan festivals into christian holidays.

Ya might find this page interesting (scroll down a bit)

You shall be assimilated!

Ugh, I'm not sure. I'll look around, see if I can scare something up.

The part about the fall is in Genesis, of course. It's just pieced together with Lucifer's story by logic.

-putters off to research-

Okay, part of it is in Isaiah 14. Part is in Rev 12, especially verse 7.

Hmm...maybe we should start a Silmarillion fangirl thread. Then you two can fight over Feanor, and Ruinel and SGH can fight over Finrod.

I like Revelation...I think it's my favorite book of the Bible.

Someone told me that in the Wiccan religion, the Goddess bears a child with the God; the God dies; the child becomes the God; the Goddess and the God have a child; the cycle continues.

I was just wondering if any Wiccans can verify this?
