OK, i know this is a little random, but have you noticed that the Aiel in the Wheel of Time look a lot like the Southron's in the Two Tower's movie

I suppose, Rosie, that I'll just have to drop my argument about God .

Sorry, I was on vacation. I definitely see your point about the lack of spiritual life in the Wheel of Time, but I'm still trying to find away around it so I can meet some characters. I don't think that they are all annoying, only several. I would like to meet Moiraine, but she's stuck in the Aelfinn. Oh well.

But back to religion. I agree with what you said in the quote above. God gave people free choice, and it is up to us to decide what we do with our lives. God doesn't control us, he knows us. If we were programmed by God to love everything and be perfect people we wouldn't be people, we'd be super-computers.

Hmmm...No, but I'll watch for that next time I see it

Four days until Crossroads in the Twilight.
Does anyone think that Mat is going to marry Tuon in this book??

But is she stuck with the Aelfinn? One thing I've thought about some is whether or not she actually has left them and is busy somewhere else. It will be very interesting to find out what has happened with her- I hope that is in the next book . Lanfear apparently bought her way to freedom, by giving up some of her power (That's my theory). What has happened as far as Moiraine's concerned still greatly interests me.

I a little bit doubt that the marriage will be in this book, though it will definitely develop what's going on with them more. I'd be glad if the marriage was in the next one though- at least that would be a conclusion to something.

Hmmm, I still still still wonder how Rand is going to get the Seanchan behind him. They're way too big for him to defeat. I think that at the end of these books, everyone might have to be willing to give a little, and to make allowances to each other. They'll have to be willing to give up old prejudices, like that of the Aes Sedai against men that can channel, and the one of the Seanchan against women that can channel, and Rand demanding that everyone do everything exactly his way- he might even end up bowing to the Crystal Throne to gain the Seanchan's support. If everyone was a little less demanding and more willing to bend to other people's needs, things could be figured out. The key word is compromise.

I think that perhaps Moiraine could be rescued from the Aelfinn. In the game of Snakes and Foxes that Mat plays with Olver, they say:
Courage to strengthen
Fire to blind
Music to dazzle
Iron to bind

Before being granted your wishes, you are asked if you have any fire, musical instruments, or iron. These are symbolic of the characters, if you look.

Courage: Could be anyone
Fire: Mat, probably, with his love of fireworks
Music: Thom Merrilin, the gleeman
Iron: Perrin, the former blacksmith.

I believe Mat will marry Tuon, maybe somewhere around Book 11, and that will help Rand form an alliance. I don't think the marriage will be quite yet though...Tuon and Mat just met at the end of Book 9 and Mat wasn't too thrilled. I think there is some chemistry though.

I'm from the United States. I went to the bookstore to pick it up, but they hadn't gotten it yet. I think that it came out in England last week.

Interesting thoughts. I hadn't really considered that poem too thoroughly before, so thanks for making that connection for me between the poem and the questions they ask newcomers. I'm sure that will be used more later on- just don't know how.

I really wonder who they are and where they come from. Perhaps that weird fellow that Rand met when fighting Sammael has something to do with them. The man who came in, blocked Rand's balefire and saved his life. He's still a bit of a mystery character, just like we don't know who those people behind that gate really are.

I live in the U.S. as well, and I think it is out here. I don't know where though. My sister works in a bookstore, and they don't have it yet, and my local library doesn't have it yet, but it's out.

I heard some reviews from people who have read it, and they say that it's still setting the stage. Not too much definitive stuff really happens in it- that's kind of classic of the series so far, don't you think? Except in Winter's Heart. In the climax of that one, something really does happen, and it sets the stage for some very interesting developments.

That man always made me curious as well, and I expected something about him by now, but oh well.

I picked up my copy of Crossroads of Twilight today, and I'll probably start it after posting this. I read reviews that said that there was not much action...it was more setting the stage for the end of the series. I heard that Perrin did something out of character at the end, and its a surprise, but I haven't started it yet. I also heard that Mat is a bit more mayure than he was in previous books.

I hope you enjoy it!

I hope you do too . Just make sure to give only a basic review at first without any major spoilers, until I've read the book as well . Unless you put them in in gray- that way everyone could read your comments and thoughts as they finish the book. It wouldn't be extraordinarily nice though to hold a gray conversation.

Don't worry, I won't give away anything very important. I haven't gotten very far yet, only the first few chapters. They are from Mat's point of view, and excellent. His interactions with Tuon are great. There are some very interesting lines, and the Chapter The Tale of a Doll gives some nice background information.

I read the part about Perrin, but not much happened. I really like the Mat-Tuon relationship though! She is quite good at messing with his head!

Now go out to that book store and buy it!

I will as soon as I can!
Well (Thinks for a moment), actually it won't likely be so long as all that. As a present for my birthday, I got a gift card for money to spend at a bookstore. Several others in my family got the same present, so it is likely that we'll soon be able to go to a store. As soon as that happens, buy it I will .

That and the next Terry Brooks book to the newest Shannara series. I read the first one to that new series (Having already finished all the other Shannara series that are out there). Have you ever read any of those books?

No, I haven't read those. Are they good? I'm looking for another series to start. I have a feeling there won't be any Wheel of Time for a while now.
I got the first book in the Sword of Truth series...have you heard anything about that?

I got it for a bargain for £9.59 @ costco by the way.

I love the poem at the start

we rode the winds of the rising storm
we ran to the sounds of the thunder
we danced among the lightning bolts
and tore the world asunder

do you think that's about the seanchen? i haven't finished the book yet so don't spoil it for me

Umm, I guess it could be the Seanchan, but I think its about the Ashaman.

Later in the book, they briefly mention the Black Tower recruiting, and they mention the recruiters talking about dancing to the lighting and running with the thunder, or something of that sort.

I like the poem about Mat the best:
Fortune rides like the Sun on high
With the Fox that makes the Ravens fly.
Luck his soul, The lightning his eye,
He snatches the moons from out of the sky.

I thought the book was excellent, but that the wait until Book 11 will be WAY too long.

I also loved the interactions between Mat and Tuon.

Oooo. New Wheel of Time book to read. GRONK will have to get to it eventually. It's a bit disappointing that the book is all set up though. Wheel of Time has been mostly set up for about ten books, GRONK thinks its about time something definitive happened. And whats this about Mat becoming more mature??? That ruins the whole fun of his character!

On another note does anyone know of a site that sums up the books one at a time? Its been a year or so since GRONK last read something in the series and GRONK has forgotten a large portion of the names and stuff like that. Kinda ruins the fun if you dont know who anyone or anything is, eh?
