But yes, they do tend to leave impressions. I've calculated the female parts of LOTR: 7. Galadriel, Arwen, Shelob, Eowyn, Goldberry, Rose Cotton and Lobelia Sackville-Baggins. Well, most leave impressions. Some *coughGoldberrycough* are just annoying.
Lanelf.
Hey! She stole my avatar!

Galadriel was wise and powerful. Arwen was beauty and grace personfied. Shelob was...interesting. eowyn was stong and independent. Goldberry was an intersting character. SHe was not elaborated on very much but I liked her. Rosie was a faithful, loving wife to Sam. And Lobeila, though she come across as a jerk, in the end was revealed to be as she truly was- not evil or anything, just a mean old lady.

No, no. Did you not see? I finished the hymn. I will start another one, just so you (or someone else) may finish it. Let's see...

An Elven-maid there was of old,
A shining star by day:
Her mantle white was hemmed with gold,
Her shoes of silver-grey.

A star was bound upon her brows,
A light was on her hair
As sun upon the golden boughs
In Lórien the fair.

I know that I'm kind of changing the subject, but I want to comment on the whole Women in LOTR:

Okay...about the women in the fellowship. No I don't think that there should've been any. Because the fellowship had at least one man to represent a race of middle earth. And women aren't known for fighting or stuff like that. I think that with the whole 9 Walkers against the 9 Riders, there shouldn't have added any either. And I love all of Tolkien's characters to death so I couldn't imagine not having Merry or Pippin or any of them being changed. I think there could have been more female characters, but it doesn't change my opinion on the books. I didn't really care. . That's my opinion.

Yeah, a lot of fantasy these days seems to be kinda "silly", in my opinion, with women warriors running around all over, shielding bashing, skewering, and hewing everything around them. I prefer it where women seem more "historical" (NOT "lesser beings", by any means, but playing a different role, such as that of Galadriel or the REAL Arwen). And exception would be the Rohirrim or the Amazons, where there is a culture which seems to advocate that "to learn the ways of war is the true calling for all women*". Or at least some, and at least that it is a part of their culture.

Yeah it doesn't really matter to me, the importance of women in the books. It contributed to the realism that in most cultures women do seem lesser than men. Don't misunderstand me, I don't think inequality is a good thing. But Tolkien couldn't go out of his way just to make LotR politically correct.

The most evil woman in LOTR is only mentioned once: Queen Beruthiel. Also, Galadriel is a pivotal character.

Ooo, loved that thing. Though I don't think Wizards could use, wasn't it just Elven Warriors and Enchantresses?
