The Hobbit must not be very popular..
Back in May, this section of Entmoot had about 600 or so posts. Now theres 700. LOTR and Silmarillion have gone up a lot more. Wonder why?

Probably because its shorter and easier to understand (at least for me).

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
I gotta admit, it's my least favorite of the 3... and there is a lot less to discuss in it than the others.

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
You have to keep in mind that Tolkien wrote it for a younger public too... At least that's what got him started...

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
Yeah, there really isn't all that much to talk about... it's a rather straightforward tale.
Entmoot is one of the few Tolkien boards that divides discussion by the book - most other sites just have one forum for all the literary discussion. I like our system. This way, people who just finished The Hobbit, for example, can come in and post their thoughts and browse the discussions without worrying about inadvertently encountering LotR plot spoilers that people casually posted in a general "Tolkien Books" forum. Fans of The Silmarillion can go in there and easily find topics of interest. There are many people who only go into the Silmarillion forum; Silm discussion has a tendency to get buried under LotR-related topics in those general forums. However, it is true that this Hobbit forum doesn't get too many posts. I'm thinking of merging it with the LotR books forum when we switch to vBulletin. I would leave Silmarillion and everything else the way it is. What do the rest of you think? |

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
What you really need, Ben, is more moderators on this forum to spice things up a bit Really though, if there was a current regular poster that could be almost strictly in charge of starting new topics here once in a while, you could get this place moving. It is a pretty straightforward tale, but I'm sure there's more to talk about than - well - what we talk about. And we don't want to upset webwizard.

I'll be that regular poster. And now on to thinking up a new topic . . .

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
Well I guess we have 2 options, really...
1. Merge it with the LotR forum so it gets activity... OR 2. Make webwizard the moderator of this forum and charge him with creating new activity Which will it be ww? |

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
I think No2 is better. LotR is already the biggest one, so it doesn't to get any bigger

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
Ok, you are now a moderator here .
I can't wait to see how you revive the forum (Inoldonil and easterlinge did a nice job when I put them in charge of the other Tolkien forums) |

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
congrats WW!!
but i'm wondering if Inoldonil was not suggesting a new moderator, but to see one of those old revlutionary hobbits bringing back some action |

Re: The Hobbit must not be very popular..
Nah, this is what I had in mind. It would be cool to see one of the ancient folks come back, but let's face it, from what I heard they were always rather cracked, weren't they? I'm afraid we can all agree they have gone quite mad and have all run off into the Blue, where they have undoubtedly fallen into a pool or a river and come to a tragic, but hardly untimely, end. We can probably put most of the blame on webwizard.

No, I had nothing to do with their disappearances <looks away guiltily>.
