Does anyone know what her alias Dernhelm means?

She was kown as dernhelm because of her exclaimation when she realized that the rider's headgear was heavy and obscured her sight.

Don't know, but in the appendixs of some of the books, it has elvish runes and the sounds that they make.

Here are some links that I found....the last one is a directory that will give several more.

http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/
http://babel.uoregon.edu/yamada/guides/tolkien.html
http://directory.google.com/Top/Scie...an_Languages//

There is also a book by Ruth S. Noel that contains all the languages invented by Tolkien and includes two dictionaries. Some here have commented that it is not the greatest source, but for the beginner I don't think it's that bad. Perhaps someone will speak up and tell of a better book.

Once you learn the language, you might want to check out this link to learn to write it.

http://www.sci.fi/~alboin/tengwartutorial.htm

Good luck and don't get overwhelmed!

http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/index.html is definately the best Tolkien language page out there. However, it's quite academic, so set aside a lot of time if ya wanna study it!

The first link anduin supplied I agree is the best. The Ardalambion is the source I always use.

Avoid Ruth Noel like the plague. Linguists do.

Great if you want a good sindarin (grey elven) reference. Ardalambion is better, it has every language and a good quenya course, but the sindarin sectioin fairly suxor.

My friend and I during english class by passing notes are memorizing the angerthas so we can talk and nobody will no what we are saying so if a teacher catches us passing notes they will have no clue what we are talking about.

(that's almost smart, huh?)

Did I hear someone recommend Ruth Noel? Ugh! To tell you that her book sucks is an understatement. The Ardalambion site is much better. You can find two of my poems there as well: "Rianna" and "Hriveresse".

I found a site that translates elvish words from the movie and other stuff. There's also wordlists in quenya and sindarin.
