I'd be tempted by Meriadoc for a boy, but I'd probably use it as a middle name rather than a first. Or maybe I should save it for the second boy, since I already have a preferred name for the first.

Sam Gamgee

Many years ago I named my dog "Samwise". A great name for a loyal, devoted friend! Unfortunately, Sam is no longer with us, but he certainly lived up to his name while he was alive.

We also have named some of our computers after Lord Of The Rings characters. They are on a network so we always know where to look for our files by knowing the names of each computer.
