Hobbit is awsome at introducing a new reader to Tolkien. Especially for kids. You can read a little bit to them each night before they go to bed, they'll look forward to it and be eager to read the LOTR.

That's exactly what my dad did to me

So I love the Hobbit. And most of my friends do too, from when they were younger. I'm not sure it's the least liked. I just think it's the least respected as a work of epic fiction (mostly because it's a children's tale at heart)
