angband
ok, there's this really cool role-playing game that I'm addicted to, called Angband. It's based on the LotR, and the object of the game is to kill Morgoth. At first it sounds really boring, and at first it is, but once your character gets really cool, it's really hard to stop playing! check it out at: http://thangorodrim.angband.org

If it's LotRs, why's it called Angband? Why is the objective to kill Morgoth? Hewasn't in LotRs.

Mayhaps a few more responses would have been engendered had this thread been posted in the "RPG" forum?

A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." I played Angband for a long time. Now I at college and have a laptop. My laptop doesn't have a numberpad, making it way to hard to play. I found it to be a really enjoyable game.

yeah, i got addicted, then my character got too high-levelled and i discovered Entmoot. now i spend about the same amount of time on the Moot as i used to playing Angband. my old character is an Elven Ranger with all the cheats on. level 50, hanging out on level 99 of the dungeon. i have the Battle Axe of Balli Stonehand, a pretty good Longbow of Velocity, Narya, Nenya, the Amulet of Ingwe (but in the town, i have an Amulet of Charisma, +6), the Phial of Galadriel, Chaos Dragon Scale Mail (i collect Dragon Scale mails for the breathing abilities against annoying things that refuse to die and resist normal stuff), the Small Metal shield of Thorin, the Golden Crown of Gondor, the Set of Cesti of Fingolfin, the Cloak of Colluin, and the Soft Leather Boots of Dal-i-thalion.

I haven't tried this game, but I do have a computer game called 'Mordor', it's not really based on anything Tolkienesque but My adventurers all have magic rings and big black cloaks so it kinda works.

my brother, evil creature with a gnome Mage that he is, has just slain Morgoth, Lord of Darkness. This has prompted me to start a new character, a High-elven Mage, as my old Ranger couldn't learn the really good spells that are needed to defeat Morgoth: Genocide/Mass Genocide, Globe of Invulnerability, or Mana Storm. so, whatever.
