amazing as it is to believe, I have never read anything by c s lewis, i was put off by a rather poor TV production of lion etc that i saw when i was young, so, are the narnia books really that great? should i read them?

the narnia books aren't the fantasy masterpiece that the Lord of the Rings is. so don't read them expecting that. They are, however, great stories. geared for the most part toward a younger audience.
His adult fiction is excellent, too. The space trilogy (especially Perelandra), and the novel Til We Have Faces (which is my favorite).

don't get me wrong, i still highly recommend them! I just didn't want you to be disappointed if you went in with different expectations.
I'm currently reading The Silver Chair, which is in the top five of my most favorite books of all time.
