The Welcome Thread: Newbie introductions; departing and returning members

Welcome to Entmoot!

In an attempt to tidy up the board, we have decided to consolidate all "welcome threads" into one official thread. Newbies are encouraged to introduce themselves here. Also, people permanently leaving the board or returning after a long absence may make a note of that here.

For the new user, here's some helpful links:
To post a message in this topic, hit the "Post Reply" button.

So, let the welcoming begin!

Please note: if you are leaving or returning, please do not use this is an outlet to vent about the admins or other users. Such comments will be removed. Please only post about a departure if you will gone for six months or more.

The return of Afro-Elf?

Hail my fellow sojourners!

It has been quite a long time since I last posted here.
To the old crew greetings.

I have since returned to the States after my years of nomading. However, I am getting restive ( sounds like the opposite doesn't it) again. So, I am considering the Peace Corp this time.

Anyway, I am back because I need some cerebral stimulus. So I am going to start some threads that will hopefully generate some discussions.

Oh, BTW I will no longer be posting in the Tolkien forums. The movies killed the thrill. I will probably avoid the DIRECT theology debates also. Besides there is no other god than Beard of Pants ( Sheena)

Again hello,

Nice to be back

Welcome back Afro-elf! I joined shortly after you went off nomading, but hey, you're famous around Entmoot!

Were you just living in Japan?

Also Mods can you please leave this thread open until people stop positng in it? I think Afro-elf has earned it.

Hey, Nurvingiel. I do recall the name. Actually I was nomading when I joined the moot. Japan was my last stop of many.

You remember me? Wow!

What were all your other stops? I love travelling - so far I've been to England, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Estonia.

Hello AE! Good to see you visiting again.

(If anyone's wondering why this thread is suddenly so short, we were nearly at 1000 posts so I split the thread)

Hey there!

*wave*

Hey folks, nice to see such an active Tolkien resource. I thought i'd start by introducing myself and saying how I arrived:

Well, firstly, I was introduced to this thread through www.merp.com where Michael Martinez, one of the leading Tolkien scholars notes 'Entmoot' as one of the more active and useful online resources.

I'm 18 years old and I've been the member of a Tolkien MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) for just over two years now - the website, if anyone's interested, can be found in my homepage information.

Ever since I discovered Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien, I was fascinated and interested with the world and the history he'd created and as a member of a Role-Play Intensive MUD, I wanted to better familiarise myself with, and get a better grasp of the canon and history of Tolkien's books.

Eventually, I'm hoping to begin a project for the MUD, though, I'd rather get a better grasp of things in a dedicated resource such as 'Entmoot' so, I thought here would be a good place to start

If anyone wants to get in touch, feel free to PM me and maybe we can chat on MSN/AOL!

Hello,
My wife is a big fan of J.R.R. Tolkien and a member of Entmoot (arien the maia), she coaxed me into joining so I could have fun with her. My least favorite character is Feanaro because of his desire to kill his own kin and make his sons promise to get back his jewels when he knew it was impossible to do. I really like Turin because he was brave. I have a son, Alexander Gabriel who will probably read the books because of his parents' love of the books. I also go to school, my major is Business.

I'm the same way. I'm still trying to figure out what all the abbreviations mean. Speaking of which, what does IHO mean? At least I think that's what I've seen. I know IMO means: in my opinion. Anyway, welcome.

You've come to the right place. I've learned so much here it's crazy. I swear I learn something new every time I come here. You should definitely check out some of Gordis' threads. She has some of the best ideas and knows so much about Tolkien lore. CAB is another you should listen to. Anyway, welcome.
