Gregorian Chant

I love Gregorian Chant. Favorite music. Any other listeners out there?

I don't listen to them regularly, but I have heard them before, and I think I may have a chant version of "Laudate Te Deum" on my computer somewhere. They can be relaxing, but I prefer classical and jazz.

I like them too. It's fascinating to hear nothing but male voices singing in another language.

Just love Gregorian Chant. I got three CDs and a cassete for my b-day! (early presents, of course) :-D (another CD, too, but it seems to have gotten lost on it's way... o.O) Any chance I get, I turn on my Gregorian Chants CD's. I listen to them to go to sleep. So calm and peaceful. The way music ought to be. How the heck is all that heavy metal supposed to soothe the savage beast?

Starr, you mean like Beethoven, Bach, Handel, and all that lot? Love them, too. Love hymns and classical, but GC is my favorite.

Yes, and some Billie Holiday, Etta James, Duke Ellington (jazz of course, not classical). I also love "The Hunt" by Vivaldi.
I've actually met two fairly influential modern jazz composers face to face: Kirby Shaw and Darmon Meader (just met Darmon on Saturday...he's a cool guy.)

Not really into Jazz much, though I do like Billy Holiday's voice.

I agree with Khamul. I love the Catholic faith (though I disagree with some of their doctrine), because of the deep sense of tradition and ritual which it gives me. I've always loved ritualistic stuff. The Gregorian Chants, besides being so wonderfully calm and peaceful, also has that same sense, for me.

Love it! I love Gregorian Chants, I find that type of music very relaxing and peaceful, and so beautiful.

Yep and I have a few CD's of it too. It's great while reading or doing things that you really don't want to as it uplifts me. Those and Buddhist chants do it for me.

I downloaded a Druid chant off of KazAa while I was downloading Gregorian Chants, and it sounded just like the same style of music to me. I think I've heard some Buddhist chants too, but I'm not sure.

Always smiling, never sad, so fine.
As we walk down the country lanes, I'll be singing a song,
Hear me calling your name.
Hear the wind within the trees, Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me.

Hrmmm its called diversity. Different types of musics can appeal to anyone aka musical taste. Way to generalize heavy metal..... alot of different bands have very melodic and serene acoustic songs. Of course heavy metal is suppose to be heavy but progressive metal, instrumental metal are usually calm and some gothic metal and alternative metal can be mellow as well. Don't know about you but a calm, harmonious and melodic duo of an acoustic medley soothes me. *shrugs*

You mean the "Chant" CD? Don't have that one.

My favourite chant is "Jubilate Deo" from Mysteria, I think... I'm not sure, as I don't actually have the CD... Blessings upon Kazaa!

yeah..its great!

I also have another CD that has some Chant music on it...but mostly it's parts of the Mass.
I know it's not technically "Chant" music but Motzart's Requiem is pretty cool too!

I have a CD called Chants: Benedictine Monks.
It's pretty cool. I like Scottish, Irish,
anything with a good beat to it. I can't
sing, but I love to dance. I sing
anyway, though.
