It is from an American folk song called "Two Dead Boys"........or something like that, been a long time since I read it.

Try Google or a good search engine

I found this in a nonsense peotry book at home.

DUEL.

One fine day in the middle of the night,
Two dead men got up to fight,
Back to back they faced eachother
Drew there swords and shot eachother.

Anon.

It might not be all of it but its all I've got.

From memory:

One bright day in the middle of the night
Two dead men got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other

A deaf police man heard the noise
Came and shot those two dead boys
If you don't believe this lie is true
Ask the blind man he saw it too.
