My favourites are Gandalf, Glorfindel, and Tom Bombadil.

I didn't think that Gandalf was portrayed well; to me, he was more stern and gruff in the book, whereas in the movie he was often overly kind; he at one or two times almost gave me the impression of being senile, almost unaware of the great and terrible deeds afoot; obviously, this is not so, as he told Frodo of them, but it is an impression I got. However, I feel that Gandalf's character, while not well represented, was one of the less poor ones.

As for the others, I think I needn't answer.

Gandalf in the movies was okay, but i do not like the actor. Gandalf did not get as much time in the two towers as in fellowship of the ring, something that i was puzzled, him bieng in the book a lot.

I like Ian McKellan; he rocked in X-men. However, I didn't think he was a very good Gandalf.
