Sam Gamgee Sam's Box

A quote from a review of the TTT exhibit in Toronto on warofthering.net

Quote:
Other artifacts included Frodo’s mithril armor, Galadriel’s Pitcher, the shards of Narsil, Boromir’s horn, lembas with a Maloryn leaf, Sam’s box, the Elven rope, letters, books, and blown glass.
Emphasis added.

To quote Merry: "Whadaya suppose that means?"

Maybe Jackson filmed Galadriel giving gifts to the whole company and it never made it to the final cut

Anduril, that's quite distasteful, even for you.
(Actually, I thought the same thing but didn't want to say it.)

Huh? His box with Lorien soil and the Mallorn seed! What!? Yeah, hopefully it will be in the extended version! If not, those who have read the books are "in the know".

I don't get it.

About Anduril's joke - I'm not even gonna start...
But from what I've heard, they're going to include the Lothlorien gift-giving scene in the extended DVD. I think Galadriel's a bit of a cheapskate. She gave sam a box of dirt? And Gimli got hair? Honestly!
Lanelf.

I had posted something and decided it sounded stupid. More so that Something I normaly post that is.

Gladriel gave Sam a box of soil becuase she knows he is a gardner, and the seed because it is a Mallorn seed, which is almost...a tree of the Mia. She gave Gimli hair because that is what he asked for.

i agree Galadriel is CHEAP!!! i think that gimli was only being polite and that he asked for a hair so as not to look greedy... i reckon he was eyeing off her pretty little ring...
what was i joking about???

I think we've talked about this before, but Gimli was genuinely awestruck at the sight of the 'elf witch' of Lorien and wanted something to remember her by.
Plus, I thought she concealed the ring so that no one knew she even had it.
As for Sam's gift, who wouldn't like a mallorn tree right in their back yard? It's especially important to him because he is gardener.

Gee, I'm a nitpicker.

It may be sentimental, but still cheapo!
Seriously - I am glad that Sam could repair
most of the damage that was done to the Shire
with it, but the others can say stuff like "I got a phial of light!" and "I got a cool belt!" and Sam says "And I got a box of dirt!...what?"
Lanelf.

He also got the blessing that,

"your fingers shall run with gold, but over you gold shall have no dominion"

or some such.

For a dwarf, what could better that?

Treebeard Gardener's Delight!

Dirt! Every speck of that soil was far better than a million gallons of "Rapid Grow", and no nitrogen burn, or mixing hassle! I think Sam's gift was best!

Yeah, my black-spot rife garden could do with some of that good stuff too. Does it count as organic if it comes from Valinor?

Better than organic! Black spot on the roses? A heavy layer of mulch under them helps. The black spot spores are in the soil, rain and watering splash them up on the rose. (Water carefully at the base, not splashing or spraying) Start fresh next spring, cut all the old canes back, clean up the dead leaves you can, then a good two to four inches of bagged ( the kind that's been processed is probably the "cleanest") mulch, just not right up against the stems, but pretty darn close. When black spot appears, remove the offending leaves. (and wash your hands before touching anything else) Keep that mulch thick, thru out the year, there's hope! You probably know this already though, sorry to go off topic!
