Did you know that...

...Frodo was originally named Bingo and was to be Bilbo's son?

...The creature which Gandaf fought on the bridge of Khazad-Dum was originally to be a black rider

...In the War Of The Ring Lorien was originally going to be razed and Celeborn with some of his people would escape to Mirkwood while Galadriel would disappear (taken, killed or hidden)?

...Treebeard was originally evil and was the one who made Gandalf late by capturing him, before Saruman was in existence?

...Later in the story's development, after Saruman replaced the evil Treebeard, Treebeard was supposed to save Merry and Pippin and come break the seige of Minas Tirith?

I have just finished Return of the Shadow and Treason of Isenguard. I'm at the beginning of The War of the Ring. It really could have been a different story. I'd like to know when Trotter changes to Strider. Still haven't reached that point yet.

Treebeard was supposed to be a giant instead of an Ent too, I think.

Tolkien obviously didn't think it was better to the part. It will be cool?

It cracks me up that Strider was orignally going to be called trotter!
A balrog is much better than a black rider, cause Gandalf would have beaten him easily. But then there would be no debate as to whether Balrogs have wings.

The wingless balrog is better, because we know nothing about him, don't know what to expect. We have learned a lot about Nazgul already.

Gandalf

I have a question- who is stronger, a balrog or one of the Nazgul?

Good question. It depends on certain things though. One nazgul on its own, without cloak, sword, horse, etc. is virtually crippled and relitively harmless. A balrog on its own, without any help from anything else is still pretty powerful. But a geared-up-Nazgul can inflict very serious, deathly damage on anyone's physical and emotional state. Plus balrogs don't get out much. Ha, now I can't make a desicion! Sorry.

umm... but without his weapon the balrog wouldn't loose the battle in Moria and Gandalf was alive.

There's no competition... We Nazgul may be extremely powerful but we are merely humans enhanced with a small part of Sauron's power...
While the Balrog's are Maia, the same race as Sauron, and too strong to be subservient to him...
