Yogi Berra

Yogi Berra, an American baseball player, died this week aged 90. He was the catcher for the New York Yankees for many years, and later the Yankee’s manager.

His baseball record is impressive: some of his accomplishments are still unmatched. More than that, he is remembered for his good humor and outstanding character. But most of all, he is remembered for the strange way he said things: Yogi-isms seem to make no logical sense, yet are understandable and even sensible.

For your amusement, here’s a sample of Yogi Berra’s wisdom:
  • When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
    .
  • You can observe a lot by just watching.
    .
  • It ain’t over till it’s over.
    .
  • We made too many wrong mistakes.
    .
  • The future ain’t what it used to be.
    .
  • It gets late early out here.
    .
  • Pair up in threes.
    .
  • It was impossible to get a conversation going, everybody was talking too much.
    .
  • No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded.
    .
  • If the world were perfect, it wouldn’t be.
    .
  • If you ask me anything I don’t know, I’m not going to answer.
    .
  • I never said most of the things I said.
He was born in St Louis, played baseball in New York, and retired to New Jersey. When his wife asked him where he wanted to be buried, he replied, “Surprise me.”

Somehow, all that reminds me of Sam Gamgee.

If you know any Yogi-isms, please post them.

Dont forget my favorite: "You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six."
