Parrallels between The Sil and the Catholic Faith
I'm a Catholic and I noticed definitive parallels between The Sil and the Catholic faith.
Eru = God Melkor = Satan Valar = Angels Balrogs, Sauron, etc = Minions Did anyone else notice this? i also noticed the parrallels betwen The Pearl by John Steinbeck. The Silmarils are so beautiful that everyone wanted to own them, causing wars to spring up everywhere. Same with The Pearl of the World. The doctor and the Pearl Buyers want The Pearl and they try to kill Kino. I looked but I couldn't find anything on this topic.

Er...Tolkien was a devout Catholic and mentions his view on religion and middle earth in various works, including the introduction to the Sil itself. The reason there is God is because Tolkien wouldn't make a world without one.
