I want everyone's opinion of what they think the best movie is. what they think the best movie in the world is.
I'm curious to see what film gets the most votes.

Good stuff, eh? That takes thought. As a slacker, I should refuse response to anything unless I vigorously hate it.

But I'll reply anyway: Good movies would include many kung fus, especcially Young Master. My favorite other movie would be Young Frankenstien. Good stuff!

Well, I haven't seen every movie ever made, so I can't give an educated answer. BUT, I sure can give an uneducated answer.

Dr. Strangelove (Or, How I blah blah blah) OR Requiem for a Dream OR UHF. I can't decide.

I'll admit I was having a bit of fun by mentioning UHF (though I do love it).

Though I did think of another one I think replaces the two I chose -- Focus.

I'm guessing if you like Schindler's List, you'd like Focus. It has William H. Macy, Laura Dern, and Meat Loaf (yes, the musician, who is also a very fine actor). It's based on an Arthur Miller novel set in Brooklyn during WWII, and it's about a gentile semi-anti-Semite who, upon getting some new glasses, everyone thinks is a Jew. It's a very subtle film, but also the most genuinely moving ones I've seen in many, many years. Please see it, though it is somewhat hard to find.

The film listing at IMDB for more info

Best movie---Godfather I and II (like Woody Boyd said in Cheers,"They should have stopped after two."

Favorite movie (great fun, especially if you are/were a history major in college) The Vikings:
Lord Egbert: "We do have an interesting form of torture, which is amusing, in a rather noisy sort of way."
Ragnar(Ernest Borgnine) "What's that?"
Egbert: "Nothing much. Just a pit full of wolves, half mad with starvation and trained to appreciate the flavour of human flesh."
Ragnar: (aside to Kirk Douglas as his son Ainar) "You see, I told you the English are civilized!"

Okay, obviously this thread is based on a matter of opinion, but what are we after- the best movie (meaning, in our opinions, what movie has, over-all, the best acting, story, score, director, etc.), or our favorite movie (meaning, if you were stuck out in the middle of the ocean on a deserted island for a hundred years and you could only pick one movie to take with you, what would it be)?

I cannot go by best, simply because I do not prefer movies necesarily or expressly for their acting or score and such.

So my favorite movie would probably be FotR.. or Pirates of the Caribbean. Although I'm leaning toward FotR. It would depend if I was allowed to take the LotR books with me or not.
