Highlights of the Sil

What scene or scenes in the Sil do you find particularly strong for some reason?

It´s hard to choose, there are son many!

For myself I think Fingolfin´s fight with Morgoth is a real thriller and beautifully narrated.

I'm torn.

Fingolfin versus morgoth was a really great scene. But I've always found the battle of Gorthaur and Felagund more enthralling. Perhaps that's because it's in peotry.

I really like the beginning, as well.

There are a lot of parts.

I loved the rescue of Meadhros by Fingon. Fingon was so brave.

The battle between Sauron and Finrod was one of my favorites, but it was sad, along with the battle between Finrod and the wolf.

I thought the Nirnaeth was an outstanding piece of writing. The description of the Gondolindrim and the battle itself gave me chills. Such as: "The light of the drawing of the swards of the Noldor was like a fire in a field of reeds, and so fell and swift was their onslaught that the designs of Morgoth almost went astray" Can you just imagine that?

I found the rescue of Turin by Beleg ad Gwindor to be another intense part. I was so shocked and saddened over Beleg.

All the events of Beren and Luthien. I love the part too, where they bury Finrod. It was beautiful.

Then there is the sacks of all the Elven Kingdoms, (Nargothrond, Gondolin, Doriath)

Did I ever tell you the Silmarillion was my favorite book?

RE

For me it's the end of the Nirnaeth Androediad. The farewell scene between Huor and Turgon, Hurin's last stand and his punishment by Morgoth.

The rescue of Maedhros was great, I agree.

Another of my favorites is when, after the deaths of Turin and Nienor, Hurin and Morwen meet one last time... that was really heartbreaking.

And, of course, the entirety of Beren and Luthien is just the greatest. I love that story.

Well, you might have mentioned it once or twice.

As for myself, I have mainly celebrated LotR for many years, and is a more recent admirer of the Sil although I read it first time long ago (did it come 1977?).
But the works are so different it is hard to make a meaningful comparison.
