If you could select one Middle Earth character to be president - who would it be and why ??

Finrod. He was very powerful, but wise and just. Diplomatic, but not afraid of battle. Was faithful, and a friend to both Dwarves and Men. Experienced king, ruling the largest realm in Beleriand.

I don't think Tom Bombadil would want to be president...

I'd say one of the following: Sam, (although I can't imagine him running a huge country), Aragorn, Galadriel, Elrond, Elendil, or. . .well, I haven't read Sil. yet, so I wouldn't know who else to pick.

Oh yeah a Hobbit for presedint. Better get someone a BIT taller so they can adress the US people without dragging the whole LIBRARY out of the White House for every speech. Or else get a very small pulpit. But I think that the QUALIIES i would like our presedit to have would be these:
Sams honesty
Aragorns capability of handling things (which Pres Bush is doing a VERY fine job of doing)
Gandalfs wisdom
Gimli and Legolas's eagerness for doing battle
Merry and Pippins love for setitng things to rights in OUR own country
Boromirs wish to protect others weaker than himself
And Sarumans know how with technology
And Frodos humility and self sacraficial spirit and not wishing to be a welcome mat to the Congress men and Senators and wisdom in choosing friends
