Volunteer Work

What, if any, do you do?

This summer, I'm working at the local nature center. I'll take care of the Butterfly house (gardening, working with caterpillars/butterflies, catching cater./butters.), teaching the public about them, help with office work, and volunteer at their big festival at a farm in the fall.

I'm volunteering with a local congressional campaign. Steve Brozak is the Democrat running in my district for the House of Reps. I've participated in phone banks, voter canvassing, and house parties.

I've taught high school students computer programming and I am on the board of directors for the Princeton Battlefield Area Preservation Society. No one gets paid in the society.

Over the past year I've been volunteering at our local Royal British Legion home for ex-servicemen and women, helping them take part in activities, talking to them etc.

That butterfly thing sounds fun, Mercutio

I volunteer at the local Public Radio station. I read for the radio reading service for the visually impared. I've done it for many years and enjoy it tremendously. I used to read articles for teenagers from various magazines, but due to renovations, they cut out the "feature" programming and concentrate more on reading from the local newspapers. One time when they were really desparate for readers, I read the Sunday sports page live-on-air (most segments were taped). That was wierd. I know very little about sports and it was football season -- I know virtually nothing about football!

Well, that's show-biz!!!!

I just got back from running around outside in the heat for 2 hours catching butterflies/moths in the meadow areas, fields, around streams, etc.

My supervisor commented on how nice it is to actually have butterflies in the butterfly house (its new this year) when people come around, and I help a great deal with that. Yay!

Well, we are a few girls my age who organize athletics-competitions for kids here in my village. We don't get paid.
