Are there any famous people who grew up in your town or near your town. Cam Neely (former NHL player) grew up in my town, as did Larry Walker (MLB player) and the late Greg Moore (CART racer). Also, Brendon Morrison of the Vancouver Canucks grew up in the town next to mine

Ah, Cam Neely. I remember being a big Bruins fan back when he was on the same line as Bourque.

The place where I am seems to be a big spawning ground for country singers, most of whom I don't really know much about. Tim McGraw is from around here, and I'm pretty sure Shania Twain is too. The guy who created Spawn - don't remember his name - is also from around here, as is the guy who laid the groundwork for the Java programming language.

There have been a lot of famous people from Akron. This is a few off the top of my head.

Judy Rezsneck (sp), one of the astronauts that died along with Krista M'Cullah, who was to be the first teacher in space, in the explosion of the shuttle Challanger in 1986.

Chrissy Hien who is the lead singer for the Pretenders.

And,

As I stated in the bball thread, Lebron James is from here. He is a friend of my Son

There was an astronaught, I think his name was Mark Polanski (we just dedicated a park to him last year and they had the marching band play at the ceremony), that went to my high school.

I think some people from Bon Jovi come from the area too. In fact, I think Bon Jovi himself went to a nearby catholic school or something.

thats all really cool. There is this guy that went to my school and was once susended, and during his week of suspension he developed a computer program that most new computers use and is now loaded because of it. Hes sold the rights to it for a lot as well. He is not exactly famous, but its cool what he did

The one I can think of now is - Thomas Alva Edison

He is dead now of course.

But the lightbult, phonograph, and motion pictures were invented a few blocks away from me.

As far as I know, there is only one famous person from my small town. Luther L. Terry is from my town. He was surgeon general of the US in the '60s under President Kennedy and was the guy responsible for getting the warnings on cigarettes. His brother lived across the street from me until he died.

Tony Butala from The Letterman grew up in my hometown. Sharon Stone is from Meadville, which is about an hour from here (I reckon in time, not miles

) And Trent Reznor from 9 Inch Nails is from Mercer, about 20 minutes from here.

right down the street from my school is a pig farm where police are searching for the remains of missing womem. The owner is being accused as Canadas biggest serial killer. So far he is being charged with 15 counts of 1st degree murder

Don't you just hate those kind of famous people being from your town? Though most of Jeffery Dahmer's crimes took place elsewhere, he started out right here. He was born and raised in Bath township, which is a suburb of Akron. His first victim, Steven Hicks, was a University of Akron student.

Only 50 states in the union - of course we could all come up with lists filled with at least a dozen 'famous' ppl from our own state- probably hundreds.

I think this topic is more about 'famous' people coming from your hometown or area - state and even nearby cities would be too easy, don't you think?

a while ago i was in Burnaby for soccer, and they have named a street Joe Sakic Street
